Singer Hwang Yeong-woong Addresses School Violence Allegations, Offers Ambiguous Apology
Singer Hwang Yeong-woong has broken his silence on the controversies surrounding him, including school violence and false career claims. However, other issues such as his background and military service were not addressed.
On the 31st, Hwang's new agency, The Uri Entertainment, stated, "We are carefully examining Hwang Yeong-woong's issues from various angles, and most of the incidents happened years ago. Many reports are from third parties, so it takes time to accurately understand the details. We will inform you of the accurate facts as soon as possible."
Regarding Hwang's factory work history, the agency clarified, "Through bank transactions, national pension enrollment certificates, and health insurance qualifications, we have confirmed that Hwang worked as a trainee and contract employee at various companies for about seven years. The misunderstanding may have arisen from not specifying details on the show, which mentioned he worked in factory production for more than six years."
The agency also revealed that Hwang had filmed an interview with seven colleagues from his last workplace, Company D, for the finals of 'Burning Trot Man' but was unable to broadcast it due to his withdrawal from the show. If further suspicions arise, the agency plans to disclose wage deposit details and testimonies from the colleagues who participated in the filming.
The agency expressed Hwang's intention to apologize to those who claim to have been harmed by him in the past. However, due to various restrictions, such as broadcast production company contracts and agency transfers, Hwang has not been able to make direct apologies or take action. He wants to apologize personally if the parties involved permit him.
Regarding school violence, the agency stated, "Hwang Yeong-woong experienced being hit and having money taken from him by other friends during his school days. He is deeply regretful and reflective of his ignorance for not realizing that his actions could leave such a significant impact and cause social repercussions."
The agency asked the public and the press to refrain from indiscriminate witch hunts and to understand the distinction between fact and baseless speculation. They also stated that Hwang has no plans for any activities, including the recently mentioned fan meeting, and emphasized that there is no current schedule for his activities.
Hwang Yeong-woong previously voluntarily withdrew from JTBC's 'Burning Trot Man' due to school violence allegations. However, even after his withdrawal, he has been embroiled in controversies involving military issues, false career claims, background disputes, allegations of favoritism on 'Burning Trot Man', and rigged first place results.
