Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo are teaming up.
Netflix confirmed the production of "The Trunk" on July 17, announcing the joining of director Kim Kyu-tae of 'Life on Mars' and the casting news of Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo.
"The Trunk" is a Netflix series depicting a mysterious marriage service and the strange marriage story of a man and woman involved, all starting from a trunk that appeared by the lake. The original work is a novel of the same name by Kim Ryeo-ryeong, who is known as a unique storyteller in the Korean literary world, with works like "Punch" and "Elegant Lies."
With a contract period of just one year and a unique setup as a premium matching service that finds a tailor-made spouse, the intertwined stories of the characters unfold unpredictably.
"The Trunk" marks the first collaboration between Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo. Seo Hyun-jin, known for creating buzz with every role due to her perfect character interpretation in works like "Another Miss Oh", "Temperature of Love", "The Beauty Inside", "Black Dog", and "You Are My Spring", plays the role of In-ji, an employee at NM, a company that arranges temporary marriages. In-ji, who has ended four marriages, meets Jeong-won as the partner for her fifth marriage.
Gong Yoo, who has been active in various genres with works like "Train to Busan", "The Age of Shadows", "Seobok", "Goblin", and Netflix's "Silence Sea", portrays the character of Jeong-won, a music producer suffering from anxiety and loneliness due to past pain. Ironically, he meets his second wife, In-ji, through a temporary spouse service applied for by his ex-wife Seo-yeon, whom he still misses.
Each harboring their own secrets and pain, Jeong-won and In-ji slowly get to know and become familiar with each other, but they are plunged into a whirlpool of events due to a mysterious trunk found by the lake one day.
Director Kim Kyu-tae, known for his delicate and detailed sentimentality in "Life on Mars", "It's Okay, That's Love", and "Live", leads the direction, and Park Eun-young, the screenwriter of the drama 'Hwarang', crafts the script to create a fresh and innovative story.
"The Trunk" , which is gaining attention for Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo's highly anticipated first collaboration and its fresh storyline, will be exclusively released on Netflix.
