BTS Makes History In Japan: The First Foreign Act To Achieve RIAJ Platinum Certifications In Streaming
After BTS's full-English track surpassed over 100 million streams in just three months, the Bangtan Boys achieve a new history in Japan as Dynamite earned a platinum certification in the streaming category released by RIAJ!
The New Certification Guidelines Set BY RIAJ
A new rule was implemented by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for the online streaming of songs. This is an addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales.
As stated in the new rule, once a song reaches 30 million streams, it achieves a silver certification. Gold is for 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams.
A New Milestone For 'Dynamite'
Last month, BTS's hit single Dynamite received an official gold certification after surpassing 50 million streams. Now, in the latest batch of certifications by RIAJ, BTS's full English track Dynamite achieves platinum certification in the streaming category after the song surpassed over 100 million streams in just three months.
BTS is not new to platinum certifications from RIAJ, especially for physical albums. However, this latest achievement marks the first time for a song of BTS to be certified platinum for streaming.
What's more impressive for this month's feat of Dynamite is that it becomes the first foreign song to receive a platinum certification for streaming in RIAJ. And following Ed Sheeran's Shape of You, which went platinum last month, it becomes the second overall song by a foreign artist.
More to BTS's certifications this month, two gold certifications were racked up by the Bangtan Boys. This is for DNA and Stay Gold, in which each song surpassed 50 million streams. Simultaneously, Your Eyes Tell, the Japanese music co-composed by Jungkook, also achieved a silver certification.
TWICE's Streak In RIAJ
Extending their record as the foreign artist with the most songs that have received official streaming certifications from the RIAJ, TWICE also earned several new certifications in the streaming category.
Furthermore, achieving gold this month is TWICE's hits: What is Love? and YES or YES. The group's Japanese song, Candy Pop, also went silver after surpassing 30 million streams.
