BTS Jimin Achieves First Korean Solo 'Gold Single' in Canada in a Decade with 'Like Crazy'
BTS's Jimin has showcased his formidable solo power in Canada, illuminating his global popularity. His track 'Like Crazy' has been certified as the first 'Gold Single' by 'Music Canada' (formerly known as the Canadian Recording Industry Association, CRIA) for a Korean solo song in the past decade.
'Music Canada' is a non-profit organization representing companies involved in the recording, manufacturing, and distribution of music in Canada. They grade releases based on digital and physical album sales, as well as Track Equivalent Album (TEA) scores, into categories like gold, platinum, multi-platinum, and diamond.
'Like Crazy' recorded sales of over 40,000 units in Canada, achieving the first gold single certification for a Korean solo song in ten years. This significant accomplishment transcends the barriers and limits of non-English music, making it especially noteworthy. Earlier, Jimin's 'FACE' reached the 10th spot on the Canadian album chart, marking the first top 10 entry for a Korean solo album in the recent decade. Its title track 'Like Crazy' debuted at #21 on Billboard Canada's 'Hot 100', staying on the chart for four consecutive weeks, foreshadowing its gold certification milestone.
Furthermore, along with 'Set Me Free Pt.2', he achieved the remarkable feat of charting two songs simultaneously as a K-pop male artist. With tracks like 'Angel Pt.1' from the Hollywood blockbuster 'Fast & Furious 10' OST and the collaboration song 'Vibe' with Taeyang, he has impressively charted four songs a total of nine times this year alone, setting the record for a Korean solo artist. In 'Digital Song Sales', along with all the tracks from 'FACE' ('Like Crazy', 'Set Me Free Pt.2', 'Face Off', 'Alone', 'Interlude: Dive'), and songs like 'Vibe', 'With You', 'Promise', 'Christmas Love', and 'Angel Pt.1', he showcased his immense solo power by charting a total of 10 songs.
Meanwhile, in 2020, Jimin was the only one among BTS to enter the Billboard Canada 'Hot 100' with 'Filter' from BTS's 4th regular album, revealing his unparalleled popularity. With the release of his solo album, he received explosive reactions, garnering love from fans worldwide, including Canada, proving the power of heartfelt music.
