YG's New Girl Group BABYMONSTER Wins 'Rookie of the Year' at Circle Chart Awards
YG Entertainment's rookie girl group BABYMONSTER has once again proven its monster rookie status by grabbing its first Rookie of the Year trophy for its debut song, which achieved the highest global streaming last year.
BABYMONSTER won the 'Rookie of the Year Global Streaming' category at the 'Circle Chart Music Awards 2023' held on the 10th in BEXCO, Busan. This award is given to the artist who records the highest global streaming within 30 days after their debut between December 2022 and November 2023.
BABYMONSTER's debut song 'BATTER UP' broke the record for the fastest 10 million streams on Spotify for a K-pop girl group debut song and surpassed 40 million streams on the 8th, showing a consistent upward trend. The group's monthly listeners reach approximately 4.7 million.
Furthermore, upon its release, 'BATTER UP' dominated iTunes charts in 21 countries and reached the top of the worldwide charts. Just eight days after its release, it secured positions in the Billboard Global 200 (101st) and Billboard Global (49th), showcasing their popularity in the mainstream pop market.
Their music video also received a warm response, breaking the record for the most viewed K-pop debut song in 24 hours, then reaching 50 million views in 4 days and 100 million views in 18 days - the fastest for a K-pop group debut song. Currently, they are approaching 200 million views, solidifying their status as the 'Next Generation YouTube Queens.' Their official channel has also surpassed 4 million subscribers.
BABYMONSTER is set to release their second song 'Stuck In The Middle' on February 1st. YG mentioned, "It's a new genre song that focuses on their outstanding vocal skills and unique tone." It is anticipated to showcase a charm opposite to their original hip-hop mood debut song 'BATTER UP.' Additionally, they are planning to release their first mini-album in April.
