Music Bank Issues Apology For Announcing Wrong Winner + EXO-SC Takes 1st Win For '1 Billion Views'
KBS' 'Music Bank' issues an official apology and correction for its latest episode where they mixed-up BLACKPINK and EXO-SC's rankings.
As reported by Allkpop, BLACKPINK took their 11th win with its latest track "How You Like That" on the July 24 episode of 'Music Bank.' They announced that BLACKPINK's success garnered 6,082 points, while EXO-SC positioned itself on the second place with 5,669 points.
However, on July 28, 'Music Bank' made an uncomfortable announcement to both groups and fans as they revealed a score miscalculation during the episode. They explained that EXO-SC should have been announced as the winner with '1 Billion Views' with 6,431 points, while BLACKPINK with 6,080 points is supposed to be the second place.
The KBS' show released an apology letter stating that there was an error in the weekly chart's rankings on July 24 due to a wrong calculation. 'Music Bank' claimed in their statement that BLACKPINK and EXO-SC's positions should be switched.
'Music Bank' further explained that the K-chart rankings are calculated based on digital streaming, viewer preference, broadcast appearance, and album sales. The broadcast appearance is calculated based on how many times the song is played during KBS programs.
The management expressed that the error occurred while calculating the criteria, and after rechecking the numbers on the results, they found out that there was a mistake. They said that as of writing, they already updated the ranking.
KBS expressed, "We deeply apologize to the viewers who love 'Music Bank' and the two artists for the confusion. We will do our best to ensure that in the future, such events will not happen again."
Meanwhile, per Koreaboo, during the June 24 episode of 'Music Bank,' they have introduced the new MCs of the show- TXT's Soobin and OH MY GIRL's Arin, and it also marks the first win of EXO-SC with '1 Billion Views.'
