BLACKPINK Jisoo Becomes First K-Pop Female Soloist to Achieve Million-Seller Status in First Week Sales
BLACKPINK's Jisoo has set a record as the first Korean female solo artist to achieve million-seller status within the first week of sales.
YG Entertainment announced on the 4th that Jisoo's first solo album 'ME,' released on March 31st, has sold over 1.02 million copies (based on Hanteo Chart's tally). This is the highest first-week sales figure for a single album by a female solo artist in South Korea.
On the day of release, the album sold 870,000 copies, making her the first and highest-selling K-pop female soloist. In just about four days, sales surpassed the one million mark. With the first week of sales not yet complete, the final tally is expected to grow even further.
With this achievement, Jisoo becomes the first K-pop female solo singer to have both group and solo million-seller albums. The album's songs also reached the top of iTunes Top Songs charts in 63 countries, including the United States, and recorded first place on the Worldwide Chart.
Meanwhile, Jisoo's first solo album 'ME' carries a double meaning, representing the unique colors and inherent beauty of herself as a solo artist reborn.
