Promising K-Drama Actress Park Soo Ryun Dies at 29 Following Staircase Accident
Prominent South Korean theatre and TV actress Park Soo Ryun has sadly died following an accident on a staircase, at the age of just 29.
Local media conveyed the heartbreaking news, citing the actress's family members who revealed that the accident happened on a Sunday afternoon as Park was making her way home.
According to reports by AllKpop, Park slipped into a coma after the unfortunate incident and was subsequently declared brain dead.
Park's family, in a poignant tribute to her life, decided to donate her organs. "Even though her brain is unconscious, her heart still beats. We believe there must be someone in desperate need of [organs]. As her parents, we find solace in the thought that her heart has been given to someone else and continues to beat," her mother revealed in a statement reported by Soompi.
Park, whose birth name was Park Young In, burst onto the theatrical scene in 2018 with her debut in the musical "Il Tenore." She went on to impress in multiple performances such as "Finding Mr. Destiny," "The Cellar," "Finding Kim Jong-wook," "The Day We Loved," and "Siddhartha," to name a few.
The talented actress made her television debut in the JTBC's 2021 drama "Snowdrop," where she shared the screen with "One Spring Night" star Jung Hae In and Blackpink member Jisoo, in a supporting role.
The shocking news of Park's untimely death led to an outpouring of grief on social media, where users expressed their condolences and extended support to her bereaved family.
One user mourned, "Such a sad day, her life ended far too soon. My deepest condolences and love to her family and friends." Another added, "Rest in peace. She was an exceptional actress and will be dearly missed. My heart aches for her loved ones."
A third user penned a poignant note, "May your soul find peace, Park Soo Ryun. Today, I was reminded of the unpredictability of death, even amidst our grand plans. Cherish every moment! Your soul is now in a serene place."
Park's funeral was held at the Suwon Hospital of the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, with a procession taking place at 10:30 a.m. KST on Tuesday.
