Girl Group FIFTY FIFTY Hits 9 Weeks on Billboard Hot 100 with 'Cupid', Setting a New Record for K-Pop Girl Groups"
K-Pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY has made history by staying on the U.S. Billboard main singles chart, the 'Hot 100,' for nine weeks, setting the longest entry record for a K-Pop girl group.
According to the latest chart released by Billboard on May 24 (Korean time), FIFTY FIFTY's hit song 'Cupid' has recorded the 18th spot on the 'Hot 100,' down one place from the previous week. Starting from the 100th spot at the end of March, 'Cupid' has made the record of staying on the chart for nine consecutive weeks, climbing 94→85→60→50→41→19→17→18. They have surpassed the previous record of 8 weeks set by Blackpink in 2020 with 'Ice Cream,' their collaboration with pop star Selena Gomez. It remains uncertain if they will surpass Blackpink's highest K-Pop ranking of 13th, as their ranking dropped one step in this latest chart.
On the other hand, 'Cupid' fully demonstrated its craze in other charts. On Billboard's 'Global' (excluding U.S.) and 'Global 200' charts, they achieved 1st and 2nd place, respectively, both climbing one place from the previous week. Especially, the only groups to have reached the top of the 'Global' (excluding U.S.) chart have been BTS and Blackpink. Now, FIFTY FIFTY is the third group to have reached this peak.
The sub-charts, excluding factors such as radio broadcast frequency reflected in the 'Hot 100,' primarily tally online streaming and digital music sales. These charts, which are recognized to be more sensitive to rapidly changing music trends, give a tangible sense of FIFTY FIFTY's popularity.
Ahead of this, FIFTY FIFTY exceeded 34.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming site. This surpasses the record of 34.12 million set by Blackpink last year, marking a new high for a K-pop girl group. 'Cupid' has been maintaining its position in the top 10 on Spotify's 'Daily Top Songs Global' chart for over a month, renewing the longest record for a K-pop girl group.
