BTS Showcases 'OST Power' with Contributions to Animation and Film
The global influence of the group BTS is extending into the realm of original soundtracks (OSTs). Following the global interest in the Korean animation 'Beastieans' for which BTS performed the theme song, member Jimin is stirring up conversation by becoming the first Korean artist to participate in the OST for Hollywood's leading franchise blockbuster, 'Fast & Furious'.
● Dominating Charts with Animation OST
On the 14th, BTS drew global attention by performing 'The Planet,' the opening song for the SBS animation series 'Beastieans', which aired for the first time. The animation tells the story of a rookie heroine, Beastieans, who uncovers the identity of a villain responsible for environmental destruction and grows as she saves the earth.
The series, which garnered global attention early on following the announcement of BTS's OST participation, has confirmed its rare move for a domestic animation to be included in Japan's TBS schedule and broadcast on the American animation streaming platform Crunchyroll. U.S. media outlet Decider revealed subscription fees and discount benefits for Crunchyroll in an article titled "How to Watch 'Beastieans' Featuring BTS."
This OST is particularly notable as it is the 'full-group' song released 11 months after 'Yet To Come' in June last year, amidst individual activities and military service of BTS members. Deadline introduced the animation as an "opportunity to meet the new song of 'super group' BTS, which has temporarily suspended its activities."
Proving the interest, the song, released on the 12th before the animation broadcast, climbed to No.1 on Japan's 'Daily Digital Single Ranking' and also topped the iTunes 'Top Songs' charts in 67 countries and regions. The dance cover video, showing the animation's characters dancing to the song, exceeded 1.42 million views on YouTube in just three days.
● Jimin: From Marvel to 'Fast & Furious'
Member Jimin is gathering attention across film and music sectors by participating in the main theme song 'Angel Pt.1' OST for the Hollywood blockbuster 'Fast & Furious: Ride or Die' (Fast & Furious 10), which is set to be released on the 17th. Jimin contributed as a vocalist on the song, which is a collaboration with American hip hop artists Kodak Black, NLE Choppa, Jake, and Money Long.
The short 25-second 'Angel Pt.1' trailer audio, released on the 9th, recorded over 820,000 streams on Spotify in just one day, which is unprecedented for a trailer audio. On Twitter, phrases like 'JIMIN IS COMING' and 'JIMIN FOR FASTX SAGA' trended worldwide in real time.
The film is a new installment of a series that has generated $6 billion in global revenue through ten films since 2001. Jimin is the first Korean artist to participate in the OST for this series. With this, Jimin, who participated in the OST for the 2021 Marvel movie 'Eternals' as a 'friend' of BTS, has become the only Korean solo artist to have two Hollywood OSTs to his name.
