K-pop rookie girl group FIFTY FIFTY has set a new record for K-pop girl groups on the UK Official Singles Chart.

According to the Official Charts on May 5 (local time), FIFTY FIFTY's title track "Cupid" from their first single, "The Beginning: Cupid," released on February 24, ranked 9th on this week's Singles Top 100 (May 5-11). The song jumped 9 spots from its 18th position the previous week. This achievement surpasses the 17th place record set by K-pop powerhouse BLACKPINK and American pop star Lady Gaga's collaboration, "Sour Candy," marking the highest position for a K-pop girl group. It is also the first time a K-pop girl group has entered the Top 10 of the chart.

"Cupid" made a surprise debut at 96th on the chart and has steadily climbed the ranks, staying on the chart for six consecutive weeks. The song successively rose to 61st, 34th, and 26th places.

"Cupid" also secured the 41st spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six consecutive weeks.

The track is a refreshing yet nostalgic synth-pop song, bringing a new era of K-pop girl groups initiated by Newzins with its easy-listening style. Foreign composers primarily created the melody, with member Kina participating in rap-making.

Social media platforms like TikTok played a significant role in the popularity of "Cupid," which has been called a miracle of mid-tier idols as it races on both the Official Chart and Billboard Chart. TikTokers created numerous sped-up versions of the original song, which spread widely. A stage video posted by a TikToker praising it as "the best pre-chorus of the year" was a significant catalyst.

As TikTok has become a primary promotional tool for the majority of K-pop agencies, it is worth noting that the easy-listening style of the original song played a crucial role in achieving such success. FIFTY FIFTY's "Cupid" continues to thrive on global music charts, and its rise on English-speaking charts is expected to continue.
