K-Pop Community Mourns the Loss of ASTRO's Moonbin: Artists Pause Activities to Pay Tribute
The music industry is returning to normalcy after the tragic passing of the talented young artist, ASTRO member Moonbin. However, the mourning and remembrance continue for Moonbin, who was dearly loved by many.
Moonbin passed away at the age of 25 in his home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 19th. The funeral was held quietly, attended by family, friends, and company colleagues, including Moonbin's parents, younger sister, and fellow BILLY member, Moonsua.
The funeral hall welcomed numerous entertainment colleagues, including past and present ASTRO members Cha Eunwoo, MJ, Jinjin, Yoon Sanha, and Rocky, who gathered to mourn the passing of their young friend.
On April 22, a private funeral procession for Moonbin took place at the Seoul Asan Hospital Funeral Hall in Pungnap-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul. In accordance with the family's wishes, the burial site was not disclosed.
Following Moonbin's passing, music shows proceeded as calmly as possible, with hosts wearing black clothing to express their condolences. Encore stages were canceled, and broadcasts continued quietly to convey the mourning sentiment.
IU postponed the interview schedule for promoting her movie "Dream," while Kim Jong-kook, Jo Hyun-ah, Lee Young-ji, and others delayed the release of their YouTube content in remembrance of Moonbin. SM Entertainment postponed Kangta's music release, SEVENTEEN delayed content releases ahead of their album launch, BTS's Suga rescheduled fan signing events, and BTOB momentarily halted their comeback promotions.
In addition to these, many fellow artists, including SHINee's Key and Taemin, TVXQ's Yunho, BTS's RM, Hyolyn, Hong Seokcheon, Kim Shin-young, and others, shared their condolences and memories of Moonbin through social media.
As the music industry temporarily paused to pay tribute to Moonbin, it is now gradually returning to its routine. Nonetheless, the memory and mourning for Moonbin will persist. It is hoped that the bright and talented youth of K-Pop, who have struggled in the shadows behind the glamour, will no longer suffer. As Moonbin's fellow ASTRO members and younger sister Moonsua, along with countless K-Pop artists, recover from their grief, we quietly wish for their strength and healing.
