Comedian Lee Hwi-jae Parts Ways with Cube Entertainment, Living in Canada with Family
Comedian Lee Hwi-jae's exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment has come to an end.
On the afternoon of April 13 (KST), OSEN reported that Lee Hwi-jae's contract with Cube Entertainment had expired between January and February. Both parties decided not to renew the contract after amicable discussions.
It has been confirmed that Lee Hwi-jae has not been in talks with any new agencies since the end of his contract with Cube. Currently, he is residing in Canada with his wife, Moon Jung-won, and their twin sons.
Lee Hwi-jae wrapped up his domestic broadcast activities last summer and took an extended break, heading to Canada. At the time, a Cube Entertainment representative told OSEN, "In August, Lee Hwi-jae went on a trip to Canada with his family. It was a long-planned trip, and he had some free time after wrapping up his broadcasts." They added, "Having never taken a proper break in his 30-year career, he went on this trip to spend precious time with his family. They plan to return to Korea by the end of the year."
However, the family trip lasted longer than initially planned, and they extended their stay in Canada, celebrating the new year in 2023 there. During this time, Lee Hwi-jae's mother, Kim Shin-ja, sadly passed away at the age of 78 on January 14.
Lee Hwi-jae, who was in Canada at the time, quickly returned to Korea as his mother's condition worsened. His wife, Moon Jung-won, also accompanied him back to Korea to be with her mother-in-law during her final moments.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Lee Hwi-jae's debut. He rose to stardom in 1992 with MBC's "Hidden Camera on Sunday Nights" and enjoyed immense popularity as a comedian and singer. Lee Hwi-jae received much love as a handsome comedian and later appeared with his twin sons on KBS2's "The Return of Superman," winning the Grand Prize at the 2015 KBS Entertainment Awards.
