At Rodrigo's Request:Choi Yena Temporarily Withdraws Controversial 'Hate Rodrigo' Music Video
Focus is being drawn to the background of singer CHOI YENA's decision to make the music video for her new song "Hate Rodrigo" private amidst controversy over its title.
On June 29th, XSportsNews reported that the music video for YENA's new song 'Hate Rodrigo' was made private due to a request from Olivia Rodrigo's team.
There was controversy over the title even before the song's release. According to sources, Rodrigo's team requested the video to be taken down due to the controversy surrounding YENA's song title.
Some speculate that the music video had to be unavoidably taken down not just because of the title controversy, but also due to copyright issues arising from certain scenes within the video.
A representative from YENA's agency, Yuehua Entertainment, confirmed to XSportsNews that they are "currently reviewing the situation."
The song reflects YENA's jealousy and admiration for pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo. By including Rodrigo's name in the title and pairing it with the negative word 'Hate', there were concerns in some quarters. However, YENA explained that it was an "ironic expression." Nevertheless, the controversy grew as it received negative reviews from critics and caused discomfort among both domestic and international fans of Olivia Rodrigo. The controversy is expected to expand further as it is known that Rodrigo's team requested the video to be taken down.
In other news, YENA is scheduled to make her debut in Japan with a single release on August 9th, marking the start of her active promotion in Japan.
