K-Pop Sensation IVE Dominates Japan: Tops Oricon, Tower Records, and Billboard Japan Charts
Japan has fallen for the K-pop girl group IVE. According to the latest chart published by Oricon (for the week of June 12, accounting for May 29 to June 4), IVE's (An Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz, Leeseo) first Japanese album, 'WAVE,' has achieved first place on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking.
Released on May 31, 'WAVE' immediately took the throne, maintaining its reign for seven consecutive days on the Oricon Daily Album Chart (from May 30 to June 5). Simultaneously, the album also topped the Tower Records All Stores Comprehensive Album Chart (May 29 to June 4), and the Billboard Japan Weekly (May 29 to June 4) Top Albums Sales chart.
Dominating local charts, IVE's music video for the title track 'WAVE,' which was pre-released on May 9, has also exceeded 10 million views. The video quickly rose in YouTube's trending rankings upon its release and continues to receive much love to date.
In celebration of the 'WAVE' release, the streets of Shibuya, a central district in Japan, are filled with IVE's advertisements and the group's songs are randomly broadcasted, testifying to IVE's popularity. At Laforet Harajuku, locals are captivated by billboards featuring IVE's visuals. In addition, with the circulation of ad trucks around Shibuya, Omotesando, and Harajuku, the central parts of Japan are filled with IVE.
IVE's first Japanese album 'WAVE' includes two original Japanese songs 'WAVE' and 'Classic,' as well as Japanese versions of 'After LIKE,' 'LOVE DIVE,' and 'Take It,' a track from their first single album 'ELEVEN.'
IVE has been actively promoting locally, including performing the title track 'WAVE' on 'Music Station,' a leading music broadcast in Japan.
