BLACKPINK's 'Kill This Love' Music Video Surpasses 1.8 Billion Views: A First for K-Pop Artists
BLACKPINK's 'Kill This Love' music video has crossed 1.8 billion views on YouTube.
On May 25, according to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK's 'Kill This Love' music video surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube around 2:28 AM. The video achieved this number in about 4 years and 1 month after its release, thanks to the continuous love from music fans worldwide.
With this achievement, BLACKPINK becomes the first K-pop artist to have two music videos with more than 1.8 billion views. Their other mega-hit, 'DDU-DU DDU-DU,' had previously reached this milestone and is currently on its way to 2.1 billion views.
'Kill This Love' is a song dominated by powerful lead brass and majestic drum sounds. The music video, capturing BLACKPINK's powerful yet charismatic dance line with a sophisticated visual aesthetic, provoked explosive reactions from fans worldwide.
The video, which includes striking movements like firing a shotgun and addictive point choreography, was highly praised and was the only K-pop entry in the 'Top 10 Most-Watched Music Videos of 2019' globally.
The song also had a noteworthy impact on various global charts. In its first week of release, it reached 41st and 24th place on Billboard's main charts, the Hot 100 and Billboard 200, breaking the highest ranks for a K-pop girl group at that time.
BLACKPINK is currently conducting the largest-ever K-pop girl group world tour, 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],' which has attracted about 1.5 million people. After a successful ongoing Asia tour, they have stadium performances lined up in Paris, France, and four cities in North America. In July, they will be the first K-pop artists to headline the 'Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival,' a music festival in the UK.
