Police to Seek Arrest Warrant for Yoo Ah-in Citing 'Fear of Evidence Destruction'
Police have decided to apply for an arrest warrant for actor Yoo Ah-in (real name Um Hong-sik), who is facing drug charges.
According to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 18th, the police are planning to apply for an arrest warrant for Yoo Ah-in on the 19th on charges of violating the Drug Control Act.
Police reportedly conducted an intense investigation for nearly 21 hours during Yoo Ah-in's second attendance on the 16th. However, it is known that Yoo Ah-in admitted to some facts about his marijuana smoking but denied most of the other allegations.
Considering this, the police have reportedly decided that detention is inevitable considering the need to secure Yoo Ah-in for additional verification and the fear of destruction of other evidence.
In particular, there has been focus on proving the suspicion of administering 'cocaine', one of the four drugs detected by the National Forensic Service. It is known that Yoo Ah-in stated, "I smoked marijuana at the recommendation of an acquaintance, used propofol, ketamine, and zolpidem for treatment purposes, but I did not take cocaine."
Furthermore, they also plan to apply for an arrest warrant for Yoo Ah-in's acquaintance, artist A, who was also investigated on the same day. The police have seen many parts of their statements diverge and lack credibility as the two closely related individuals continue to deny the allegations.
Meanwhile, the police plan to apply for an arrest warrant before the weekend and refer the case to the prosecution within this month.
