Fans Spill Theories On Why Red Velvet Irene & Seulgi's 'MONSTER' MV Was Delayed
To the disappointment of fans, the highly anticipated subunit of Red Velvet with Irene and Seulgi was open to numerous latency — including the day of the official launch.
SM Entertainment had initially announced that Red Velvet's Irene & Seulgi's album, along with the title track's music video, would be launched on July 6 at 6 PM (KST). However, only the audio was released on time, which dismayed the anticipating fans.
It was only after six hours of waiting did SM Entertainment finally released an update. According to the post, the music video will be released on July 7 at 12 PM (KST) instead, Republicworld reported.
Although SM Entertainment did not reveal the reason for the delay, fans believe they may have found the reason why the music video for "Monster" was released later than expected.
"Monster" features a series of horror and violence and has been rated 15 for the mature concept. Seulgi could also be seen wielding a gun in some clips.
Fans believe that the music video may have initially depicted more aggressive scenes, leading SM Entertainment to do a last-minute modification.
One possible "missing" clip is where knives are seen lodged on the wall behind Irene, a potential scene that connects to Seulgi's scene where she threw the knives. The viewers found the framing of the scene somewhat peculiar.
In one scene, Irene seems to be trapped, and scissors can be seen on top of the paper. Some have pointed to the cutting at the bottom of the shot, and fans believe that Irene attacking Seulgi may have been the original sequence.
Fans have strengthened the theory by claiming that although their music videos for their previous track "Peek-A-Boo" reveal Seulgi bleeding after Irene lifts a razor blade, the explicit editing of Seulgi's scene never shown her cutting Seulgi.
Despite the music video's delay, it is still fortunate that it did not affect the rising number of views.
It remains unconfirmed that there was an previous video with darker scenes, but it is a substantial possibility.
