Comedian Lee Su-ji Avoids Han Ga-in Controversy While Showing Support for Kyung Soo-jin
Comedian Lee Su-ji has remained silent on allegations that she indirectly criticized actress Han Ga-in while actively promoting Kyung Soo-jin's latest film.
On February 25, Lee Su-ji took to social media to share a snapshot from the screening of the upcoming film Baeksoo Apartment. She captioned the post, "It captures both humor and emotion perfectly, and Kyung Soo-jin is absolutely lovely. I'm definitely watching it again."
Meanwhile, Lee Su-ji has recently sparked discussions with a satirical YouTube video titled "Human Fake Documentary: A Mother's Peculiar Day - Jamie Mom Lee So-dam" on her personal channel.
In the video, Lee portrays a caricature of an over-the-top "Gangnam Mom," a term referring to affluent, highly competitive parents in Seoul's elite districts. She dressed in what is often dubbed the "Gangnam mom uniform"-a luxury padded coat and designer handbag-while aggressively managing her child's academics. The skit featured exaggerated moments, such as calling her child by an English name, chauffeuring them to cram schools, and even hiring a private tutor to prepare for a footbag (jegichagi) test, highlighting the extreme lengths some parents go for education.
The viral success of the parody led to an unexpected outcome-luxury brands featured in the video saw their resale value drop on secondhand markets.
However, the satire unexpectedly roped in Han Ga-in, drawing negative attention to the actress. Han had previously uploaded a YouTube vlog showing her taking her child to and from school, an action some viewers linked to Lee Su-ji's parody.
As comments flooded Han Ga-in's video with remarks such as "I came here after watching Lee Su-ji's video," and "This seems excessive," the situation escalated, leading Han's team to make the video private on February 25 to curb further controversy.
In response to media inquiries about the issue, Lee Su-ji declined to comment directly, stating, "Please contact my agency or manager for official responses." Her agency, iHQ, also distanced itself from the situation, explaining, "Lee Su-ji operates her YouTube channel independently, and the company does not intervene in its content."
Despite the controversy, Lee Su-ji continues to engage with her projects, including promoting Baeksoo Apartment, a mystery-comedy thriller about an unemployed man investigating the source of persistent apartment noise at 4 a.m. The film, directed by Lee Ru-da, stars Kyung Soo-jin, Go Gyu-pil, Lee Ji-hoon, Choi Yoo-jung, and Kim Joo-ryung, and is set for release on February 26.
