Kim Soo-hyun’s KakaoTalk Analysis Backfires? 2018 Messages Likely From Same Person, Report Reveals
Actor Kim Soo-hyun held a press conference strongly denying allegations that he dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was underage. During the event, he presented a report from a linguistic analysis institute to validate his claim. However, the report's contents have sparked mixed reactions online.
On March 31, Kim held a press conference at the Stanford Korea Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, alongside attorney Kim Jong-bok from law firm LKB & Partners, representing his agency Gold Medalist.
At the press event, Kim Soo-hyun categorically denied all allegations, stating that the evidence released by the late Kim Sae-ron's family was fabricated. He claimed that the KakaoTalk messages presented by the bereaved family were not genuine and had been manipulated.
To support his claims, Kim said he had submitted the data to a certified linguistic analysis agency for scientific validation.
"The YouTube channel has used messages from 2016 to frame me as a pedophile and someone involved in grooming a minor. But the individuals in the 2016 and 2018 KakaoTalk conversations are not the same person. To prove this, I submitted the 2016 and 2018 chats shared by the bereaved family, along with my own conversations with acquaintances this year, to a professional institution that scientifically analyzes statements. As you can see, the agency concluded that the individuals from 2016 and 2018 are not the same," Kim stated.
However, attention has shifted to other parts of the report, beyond the red-highlighted conclusion Kim emphasized. On online communities, netizens are pointing to what was not mentioned during the press conference.
Comments such as, "Why didn't he mention this part at the press conference?", "I found something strange-what is this?", "This is undeniable proof," "Did he even read the report?", "He should've written his speech after reading the document," and "What is going on?" reflect growing public skepticism.
Examining the full report context, one line reads: "The sample size of the data analyzed is limited (due to the restricted amount of text), which presents limitations in interpretation. The outcome of the analysis may vary if more data is analyzed. Therefore, this conclusion is based solely on the materials provided."
More notably, another part of the report states, "There is a high possibility that the messages from 2018 and 2025 were written by the same person. The stylistic, grammatical, and expressive patterns are consistent, with no statistically significant differences, and the speaker's linguistic habits have remained stable."
According to this, in 2018, Kim Sae-ron-born in 2000-was 19 in Korean age (17 in international age), still legally a minor at the time.
