ZeroBaseOne Explodes onto the Scene at 'KCON Japan 2023,' Underscoring Pre-Debut Popularity
The group ZeroBaseOne (ZB1) showcased explosive popularity at 'KCON Japan 2023,' fueling expectations for their official debut.
ZeroBaseOne, composed of members Kim Gyubin, Kim Jiwoong, Kim Taerae, Ricky, Park Gunwook, Seok Matthew, Sung Hanbin, Jang Hao, and Han Yujin, delivered their first-ever full performance on May 14th at the World's No.1 K-Culture Festival 'KCON Japan 2023' held at Makuhari Messe in Japan.
ZeroBaseOne kicked off their act with the signal song 'Here I Am' from Mnet's 'Boys Planet.' Dressed in signature outfits reminiscent of school uniforms, the nine members delivered an energetic performance while deeply interacting with fans from the 360-degree open stage. The 15,000 spectators created an extraordinary scene, standing and enthusiastically singing along to the Korean lyrics.
Following this, ZeroBaseOne unveiled their competition song 'Say My Name' from 'Boys Planet,' explaining their song selection was based on the hope that "we, the nine of us, always want to be called out by our three-letter names by fans worldwide." The boys vividly depicted the heart of a boy falling in love the moment his name is called.
In their first encounter with their official fan club 'Ze_Rose,' ZeroBaseOne moved fans with their extraordinary love. The members created unforgettable moments by mimicking audience poses in real-time during the CCCV corner. They roamed around the venue in moving carts, gifting signed balls and t-shirts to local fans. Notably, considering Rose Day coincided with their performance and their fan club is called 'Ze_Rose,' the members gifted roses to fans, amplifying the heartfelt moment.
ZeroBaseOne expressed their feelings, saying, "Like our name suggests, we nine, starting from zero, ask for your support so our journey can become a splendid masterpiece."
At the end of the show, a spoiler film for their debut album, 'Youth in the Shade,' was surprisingly revealed. The video featured Jang Hao's silhouette against bright light, followed by Sung Hanbin slowly appearing into the light. The video concluded with the two members facing each other, a small candle between them, and the words 'YOUTH,' 'IN THE,' 'SHADE' interspersed throughout. Following the video reveal, global fans' curiosity surged, as did anticipation for ZeroBaseOne's debut album and concept.
Despite being pre-debut, ZeroBaseOne has garnered exceptional popularity as a rookie group in 'KCON Japan 2023,' a major official event. They installed a special artist booth given only to the two artists with the most pre-voting points from KCONers, and all seats for their Meet & Greet event sold out instantly. Their 'K-POP IDOL LABO' video on KCON's official YouTube reached approximately 60,000 simultaneous viewers, demonstrating ZeroBaseOne's overwhelming popularity both online and offline.
Meanwhile, ZeroBaseOne is foretelling a 'global whirlwind.' They broke the record for the shortest time for a K-POP group to reach one million followers on Instagram and TikTok, achieving the feat just six days and seven days after their respective account openings.
