BTS Jin, V And Suga Have Connections To South Korean Royalty
BTS members Jin, V and Suga revealed that they have royal blood flowing in their veins but it's Suga's family history that will have fans blown away because he has direct relations to South Korea's monarchs.
According to reports, Suga, whose real name is Min Yoongi, is part of the Yeoheung Min clan. His family was once powerful during the Joseon dynasty, which ruled the Korean peninsula from 1392 to 1897.
In an episode of BTS Run, Suga confirmed his royal connections and said that his grandparents many generations over are high-ranking members of society. At least four of his ancestral grandmothers were empresses or queens and some 240 members of his family had seniority in the hierarchy of the royal court.
The Joseon dynasty, also known as Chosŏn or Chosun dynasty, was a very important time in Korea's history as it shaped their society's norms, etiquettes, language, traditions, government system, commerce and technological advances. Music also developed during this period with the most popular poetic form called sijo.
BTS fans, also known as the ARMY, have been used to calling Suga the "King" because of he is top-notch when it comes to creating rap music. The term might be more apt now that he has confirmed he is indeed of royal blood.
Jin and V, on the other hand, also descended from royal families. Jin is from the Gwangsan Kim family and they were also important members of the society during the Joseon dynasty. V is from the same family as well and is said to have descended from the line of King Sinmu of Silla.
Meanwhile, Suga has proven, yet again, that he is on a different status when it comes to music. The BTS star's solo single "Daechwita" has had another milestone as it reached 10 million likes on YouTube. The video has earned over 219 million views.
According to Forbes, reaching these numbers is not an easy feat, even for South Korean boyband members who have a strong following. So far, only BTS as a group, and PSY as a solo performer are enjoying this status among the male K-Pop stars.
"Daechwita" is part of D-2, the solo album release of Suga, which came out in 2020. It scored a number one ranking for Billboard's Rap Digital Song Sales and World Digital Song Sales charts, making Suga the first South Korean artist to achieve such a feat. D-2 has been top performing in the Billboard charts as well and even debuted at number 11 in the United States. (Business Times)
