NJZ Responds to Visa Controversy Surrounding Hanni: Visa Issued Legally, Media Misuse of 'Illegal Resident' Regrettable
NJZ, formerly known as NewJeans, has addressed concerns regarding member Hanni's visa status, clarifying that she legally obtained a new visa.
On February 12, NJZ members' parents issued a statement via the group's official social media account, addressing the surge of speculative news articles and false information regarding Hanni's legal status in South Korea.
"Hanni successfully received a new visa on February 11 through the proper legal process," the statement read.
The statement further criticized ADOR, alleging that the company pressured Hanni and her parents by using the visa renewal process as leverage.
"ADOR demanded Hanni sign a renewal agreement listing the company as her agency, warning that failing to comply could result in illegal residency. They even submitted personal information and documents to government agencies without consent and only notified her afterward," the statement claimed.
Misuse of 'Illegal Resident' in Media Reports
NJZ's statement also condemned certain media outlets for misrepresenting the situation and spreading unverified rumors.
"Some media have irresponsibly used the term 'illegal resident' without confirmation, fueling unnecessary public concern. Additionally, reports citing 'anonymous music industry insiders' or 'multiple sources' have contradicted themselves," NJZ's parents stated.
They pointed out that initial reports claimed ADOR had prepared all necessary visa renewal documents but that Hanni refused to sign, while later articles claimed ADOR was unable to confirm the situation.
"The leak of private information, including visa type and expiration dates, is a serious breach of personal rights. Only ADOR, which has access to the members' private details, could have spread such information to the media, and we strongly regret this."
Legal Action Considered for Privacy Violations
NJZ emphasized that unauthorized use or disclosure of personal data is unacceptable, warning that they are considering legal action to protect the members.
"Previously, members' personal details, including immigration records, were accessed and reported without permission. This situation has become increasingly alarming, and we are now exploring legal options."
The statement ended with an apology to fans:
"We sincerely apologize for any concern or discomfort this situation may have caused. Thank you for your support, and please take care of your health."
