BTS Jungkook to Critics of His Drinking Broadcast: 'Speak Freely, I Want Authenticity' - Reveals Struggle with 'Youngest' Image in Debut Solo 'Seven'
BTS member Jungkook has sent a pointed message to those criticizing his drinking broadcast, explaining the reason behind the release of an explicit 19+ version of his first solo single, "Seven".
On July 22, Jungkook held a live broadcast on the fan community platform, Weverse.
During the broadcast, Jungkook expressed his thoughts on wrapping up the "Seven" activities, saying, "In a way, it felt like limited activities. Nonetheless, it was brief but a thankful and happy experience."
Jungkook confessed, "As it was the last activity, I enjoyed lots of delicious food. I drank some alcohol too. I am slightly intoxicated at the moment." Adding to this, he said, "Even if I make a slip of the tongue, I'll keep going. As far as ARMYs (fandom name) are concerned, I am genuine. I can make mistakes as a person, and various things can happen, but to the ARMYs, I am sincere."
Expressing his desire to have a closer relationship with ARMY, Jungkook stated, "People might talk about Jungkook drinking and such. Speak freely. I've mentioned this in interviews before. I want to take care of those who like me, who say nice things about me, more than anyone else."
Jungkook's solo track "Seven" was released in two versions: an Explicit, unavailable to minors, and a Clean version. During the live session, a netizen asked why he released the explicit version, referring to it as a 'dirty' version.
"Why do you think it's a dirty version? It's just honest. Everyone may feel differently. If it feels that way, then there's nothing I can do," responded Jungkook, expressing his discomfort over the term 'dirty' version.
He added, "I struggled a lot between the two. I wondered which version to release. Releasing both was my choice. The interpretation of the Clean version and the Explicit version would differ. I thought that would be interesting," explaining why he decided to release both versions.
"I can't gain recognition unless I show a new side of me by my will. It's something only I can do," said Jungkook, adding that the explicit version was a challenge. "If I only follow the image of being the youngest that people like, what can I change about myself?"
Jungkook then continued, "To be honest, I was scared to try something new and didn't even want to do it before," expressing his gratitude to the ARMY for giving him the courage to take on new challenges.
Meanwhile, on July 14, Jungkook released his first solo single "Seven (feat. Litto)" worldwide.
