BabyMonster: YG's Upcoming Girl Group Hits 3 Million YouTube Subscribers Pre-Debut. The New Leaders of Gen 5 K-Pop?
YG Entertainment's new girl group, BabyMonster, has surpassed 3 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel, demonstrating global music fans' intense interest even before their official debut.
According to YG Entertainment on the 17th, BabyMonster's official YouTube channel broke through the 3 million subscriber mark at 1:08 PM on that day, only about 201 days after the channel was launched on December 28th last year.
In the global music market, the number of subscribers on YouTube indicates the formation of a loyal fandom. This signifies the impending debut of a 'monster rookie' with solid skills and global attention. Many believe they could be the frontrunners leading the 5th generation of girl groups.
Along with the subscribers, the views of their content are also steadily increasing. To date, videos posted on the official YouTube channel have racked up over half a billion views. In particular, the pre-debut song 'DREAM' is on a steep upward trend, approaching 50 million views. It topped YouTube's worldwide trending immediately after its release and also conquered Billboard's 'Hot Trending Songs' chart.
BabyMonster, YG's first girl group announced nearly seven years after BLACKPINK, is an 'all-rounder' group with members from Korea (Ahyun, Haram, Rora), Thailand (Pharita, Chiquita), and Japan (Ruka, Asa), boasting skills in vocals, dance, rap, and visuals, and is the recipient of much anticipation.
BabyMonster are gearing up for their debut in September. They have invited renowned international producers to Korea for multiple song camps and have secured numerous tracks including their debut song. YG stated that they are also actively preparing for subsequent projects that will follow after their debut.
