Seong Minji Makes a Splash: Aspires to Be 'Trot Music Idol for the MZ Generation'
Singer Seong Minji has officially launched her career with the release of her debut mini album 'Superstar'. Sung Minji held a showcase to commemorate the release of her first mini-album 'Superstar' at the Rolling Hall in Seogyo-dong, Seoul, on the morning of July 4.
Expressing her sentiments on her comeback, Seong Minji stated, "I feel so good and proud. I was curious about the reaction since it's my first mini-album, but it was better than I thought."
This album features a double title track, capturing the vibrant and bright energy of Seong Minji, who emerged as a 'Trot star' after her debut. It includes five new songs, a remake track, an MR track, and a total of eight tracks.
Trot hit composer Kim Dongchan attended the showcase, providing moral support for Seong Minji. Kim Dongchan stated, "Seeing Minji, I had high hopes for a national singer. Her quick acquisition of the song is impressive and she captures the flavor well. I felt that she is perfect in every way as she quickly catches the expression of the song. Working with her was a pleasant and exciting experience."
In response, Seong Minji expressed, "I always felt grateful because the teacher always told me 'I love you', 'You're going to hit big', 'You're the best', and many other words that boosted my self-esteem during recording sessions. I also thought that the teacher quickly grasped the MZ generation."
The title track 'Oppa Oppa!' expresses a heart-fluttering feeling towards a loved one with a retro sound and modern lyrics, capturing a trendy and hip feeling. The double title song 'Match Made in Heaven' is a traditional Trot song that impressively combines Sung Minji's flavorful singing power and an energetic melody to express a precious sentiment towards a lover, even if they were brought together by fate.
When asked about why she chose a double title track, Seong Minji said, "All six songs included in the album are good. It must have been hard to choose the title song. 'Match Made in Heaven' is a song everyone will enjoy, and 'Oppa Oppa' was chosen because it contains MZ sentiments."
When questioned about her ideal type as she calls 'Oppa' in her songs, without hesitation, she mentioned Lim Young-woong and Lee Jun-ho. Seong Minji revealed her affection, saying, "When I met them in the past, I was impressed by how they kindly took photos and gave me autographs. Their personalities are good and don't they sing well?"
Another attention-grabbing track is a remake of the late Song Hae's posthumous work, 'Until I Go to My Hometown.' Seong Minji, a graduate of KBS1's 'National Singing Contest', comforted the pains of the expatriates, including the late Song Hae, who passed away without stepping foot on their hometown soil, with her own voice.
Regarding the remake of 'Until I Go to My Hometown', composer Kim Dongchan mentioned, "This was a song that the late Song Hae cherished greatly. After releasing the song, he unfortunately passed away due to COVID-19, unable to promote it. It was regrettable. His lifelong dream was to hold a 'National Singing Contest' in Hwanghae Province, but he passed away before realizing this dream. I thought that the song might be forgotten, but Seong Minji came and said she wanted to sing it. She even paid her respects to the late Song Hae in Dalse to match user AI<|im_sep|>Title: "Seong Minji: Rising Star of K-pop - Dreams of Being MZ Generation's Trot Queen Like Role Model Jang Yoon Jung with New Mini Album 'Superstar' Release"
