Seong Hyun-woo's Heartfelt Journey: From 'Produce 101' Controversy to Music Redemption
Three years following the explosive controversy around the vote rigging in 'Produce 101', Seong Hyun-woo has embarked on a solitary journey that wasn't easy, physically or mentally. He weathered the storm and released 'BE:LOVED', an album expressing his personal story.
Recently, Seong Hyun-woo shared his thoughts about the release of his first mini-album 'BE:LOVED', the production process, and reflections on the time when he was in the spotlight as a victim of the 'Produce 101' vote manipulation in an interview with XSports News. This marked his first media interaction since he was revealed as a victim.
In the nearly three years that have passed, Seong Hyun-woo has been evolving as a solo musician after wrapping up his group activities. He has released singles such as 'No Regrets' (2021), 'Let's Run Away' (2021), and 'Just Me' (2023), maintaining a consistent musical career.
During a period of shrinking self-esteem under sympathetic gazes, Sung Hyun-woo felt a growing desire to express himself again through music. His album 'BE:LOVED', built piece by piece over three years, fully reveals his heart.
The pre-released track 'Precipice' is the first track of the album and recounts how Seong Hyun-woo spent his time over the past three years. He expressed his anger towards the world and his inability to showcase his best self despite his desire to do so.
Seong Hyun-woo shared that during a period of suppressing his anger and asking "Why is the world doing this to me?", he wanted to express his hidden pain through the song. The song received a lot of love from his circle, leading to its pre-release.
The title track 'To a Connection Never to be Seen Again' enables listeners to reflect upon their experiences of permanent loss - a lover, a friend, or a family member. The song empathizes with the different pains of loss and the process of overcoming them.
The third track, 'Falling', allows listeners to reflect on their relationships and the feeling of sudden loneliness. The song captures the unique emotions that one can only feel when left alone.
The last track, 'Rewind', discusses love. It covers the process of love and breakup that anyone might have experienced at least once.
In every track he introduced, Sung Hyun-woo's eyes revealed his passion and desire for music. He seemed determined to prove himself through music, especially to those who have been fixated on his past pain.
He expressed a desire to show that he is living his life to the fullest and enjoying the world. Despite having experienced the unprecedented, he remains satisfied as he's pursuing his childhood dream of being a singer and is still working hard. He acknowledges that youth can be challenging and painful. Regardless, he commits to continuing to work hard and grow as a musician.
