A Decade of Dynamite: BTS Celebrates their 10th Anniversary in Grand Style
The 10th anniversary celebration of global K-pop sensation BTS, colloquially known as the 'BTS FESTA', concluded on a high note.
On the 17th of this month, BTS hosted the 'BTS 10th Anniversary FESTA @Yeouido' at Han River Park in Yeouido, Seoul, bringing a spectacular end to their 10th-anniversary celebrations, the 2023 BTS FESTA.
This '2023 BTS FESTA' was organized by BTS to commemorate their 10-year journey in the industry and reciprocate the immense love they have received over the years. Under the official slogan, 'BTS PRESENTS EVERYWHERE', a series of massive online and offline events were unveiled throughout June, transforming the month into a 'BTS festival'.
BTS Paints the Town with a Mix of Online and Offline Celebrations for their 10th Anniversary
The '2023 BTS FESTA' officially kicked off on the 3rd with the online streaming festival, 'BTS Concert from Home' (also known as 'Bang Bang Con 23'). Fans from 223 countries worldwide tuned in, providing a palpable sense of BTS's global popularity.
On the 9th, BTS celebrated their 10th anniversary by releasing the digital single 'Take Two'. The seven members used the theme 'take two', signifying the start of their second chapter, to express gratitude towards their fans and a commitment to keep going together. Upon release, 'Take Two' achieved number one on the iTunes 'Top Songs' chart in 92 countries and regions, number one on the US Spotify 'Daily Top Songs Global', and number one on the Japanese Oricon 'Daily Digital Single Ranking'. It also ranked 59th on the UK's Official Singles Chart 'Top 100'.
In addition to this, a variety of other elements helped shape the atmosphere of the '2023 BTS FESTA'. Jimin uploaded a live clip of the song 'Letter' which was only included in the CD version of his first solo album 'FACE'. Jin participated in Suga's own talk content 'Suga's Sugita', as a guest. J-Hope released a rock version of the title track 'Arson' from his solo album 'Jack In The Box', which he had previously showcased at the massive American music festival, Lollapalooza. V released a jazz live clip titled 'Le Jazz de V', while RM and Jungkook contributed their strength to the Yeouido event.
Outdoor ads celebrating and commemorating BTS's 10th anniversary were also posted in various locations in Korea and around the world, offering fans a rich visual feast and the fun of finding these posts. Major landmarks in Seoul were lit up with purple lights and media façades, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Grand Finale at 'BTS 10th Anniversary FESTA @Yeouido'... An Overwhelming Scale
The '2023 BTS FESTA' came to a resplendent conclusion on the 17th at Han River Park in Yeouido. The 'BTS 10th Anniversary FESTA @Yeouido', a large-scale event conducted in collaboration with Seoul City, featured 'exhibition and experience programs' and 'special programs'. A total of 400,000 spectators were in attendance on the day, and the social buzz surrounding the event from May 31 to June 17th nearly reached 12 million.
RM communicated directly with fans, the ARMY, through a special program called '5 PM, This is Kim Namjoon'. After making a surprise phone connection with V and Jungkook, he thanked the fans and all those who have loved BTS for the past 10 years. He then passionately performed his solo tracks 'Intro: Persona' and 'Flower Games' (with Jo Yu-jin), with fans fervently cheering and applauding.
The finale of the '2023 BTS FESTA' was adorned by a 'BTS 10th Anniversary Fireworks Show'. The fireworks show, divided into three parts, expressing gratitude to ARMY, moments to remember from the past 10 years, and the promise to meet again, lasted for approximately 30 minutes. As BTS's hit songs played in sync with the fireworks and Jungkook's narration, the night sky was beautifully lit up. At the end, Jungkook promised to open the second act together with the track 'Take Two'.
RM's event and the fireworks show were broadcast live on global fandom life platforms such as Weverse, TikTok, and YouTube, allowing fans worldwide to participate. The Weverse viewership for '5 PM, This is Kim Namjoon' reached over 1.08 million, while the 'BTS 10th Anniversary Fireworks Show' attracted over 1.19 million on Weverse and had 340,000 simultaneous viewers on YouTube.
Another highlight of the day was the orderly behavior of the fans present at the event. Fans moved smoothly following the instructions of the security staff, and the area around Han River Park was maintained clean even after the event, showcasing the maturity of the fan culture.
