2023 Weverse Con Festival: An Epic Gathering of K-Pop's 'Living Legends' and 'Fourth Generation Icons'
The '2023 Weverse Con Festival' (hereinafter referred to as the 2023 Weverse Con) brought together 'living legends' and 'fourth generation icons' of the music industry for a grand celebration.
The festival, held on the 10th at the KSPO DOME in Seoul Olympic Park, revealed its 'Tribute Stage' as part of the Weverse Con that commenced at 6 p.m. The Tribute Stage, a signature event of the festival, aimed to share the music of musicians who had a significant impact on the history of Korean popular music and recall the timeless emotions and messages delivered through their music.
Previous Weverse Cons had created a buzz by paying tribute to the late Shin Hae Chul and Seo Taiji at the '2021 New Year's Eve Live' and the '2022 Weverse Con'. This year, the tribute was to the 'Madonna of Korea,' singer Uhm Jung Hwa.
Kim Junsu (XIA), a singer from the second-generation group JYJ, introduced the tribute stage for Uhm Jung Hwa. He described her as the "protagonist who has created her own movie with love and passion for music over the past 30 years" and said that if he had to pick the best scene from her life, it would be "the moments on stage with music".
Following that, fourth-generation leading boy group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) reinterpreted and performed Uhm Jung Hwa's signature song 'Invitation,' enhancing the atmosphere of the venue.
Uhm Jung Hwa, who stepped onto the stage arm in arm with the five members of Le Sserafim, presented a special thrill to fans by performing her representative song 'Ending Credit' together. This performance was the highlight of all the stages unveiled at the '2023 Weverse Con' that day.
In addition to the tribute stage, the 'Weverse Con' that day featured a dazzling lineup, including recently debuted boy group BOY NEXT DOOR, solo singers such as Kim Junsu and Hwang Minhyun, K-pop representative girl groups and groups such as Le Sserafim, fromis_9, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. The girl group Moonchild, representing Japan's Generation Z, also met global fans through 'Weverse Con' that day.
Performances at 'Weverse Park' set up on the 88 lawn from 11 a.m. added a festival vibe with live band sets. The group &TEAM, who made their debut through HYBE JAPAN and are active at home and abroad, singer Lee Hyun returning as Midnight, singer Hyolyn, a former member of the group SISTAR, and the group ENHYPEN, met fans on the outdoor stage.
There were also various companion stages. The host of the day, producer and artist Beomzu, unfolded the production process and behind-the-scenes stories with fromis_9's Jiheon, with whom he worked together. They also decorated a special stage together.
There was also a time for communication with the audience. The 'Urban Dance Studio,' where you can learn choreography directly from the artist's performance director, was conducted. On this day, ENHYPEN's performance director appeared and shared stories about the birth of the choreography.
The '2023 Weverse Con' continues at the same time and place on the 11th. Group Newjins and singers Zico and Down will decorate the stage. ENHYPEN and &TEAM, who decorated the stage on the lawn the previous day, will meet fans again in the dome, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, who decorated the stage in the dome, will meet fans again on the lawn. Solo stages by Baekho, a former member of the group NU'EST, and Leseraphim member Heo Yunjin are also scheduled. Although they are not affiliated with HYBE, groups BTOB and Rightsum, which are in Weverse, will also have stages.
