ABOUT TWICE
In 2016, TWICE soared to local prominence with their hit 'Cheer Up,' which tracked the Gaon Digital Chart, became the best-performing song of the year, and earned Song of the Year at Melon and Mnet Music Awards. Their following track, 'TT,' from their third EP Twicecoaster: Lane 1, took four successive weeks to dominate the Gaon rankings.
The EP has been the 2016 K-pop girl band album with the highest sales. TWICE has distributed more than 1.2 million units of their four EPs and exclusive album since their debut.
They had become the all-time best-selling Korean female artist in 2019. As of July 2020, the band has produced more than 9 million records in South Korea and Japan.
In 2020, as part of an agreement with JYP Entertainment, TWICE reached U.S. partnerships with Republic Records. The band premiered under Warner Music Japan in Japan on June 28, 2017, releasing a compilation album called #Twice. The record mapped the highest first-week music sales by a K-pop act in Japan in two years, at number two on the Oricon music charts.
This was preceded in October by the launch of TWICE's first Japanese version maxi-single entitled 'One More Time.' TWICE was also the first Korean female artist to receive a Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) platinum certificate for both an album and a CD track in the same year.
