BLACKPINK's Global Presence Soars with World Tour and Jisoo's Solo Success
BLACKPINK is proving their significance as YG Entertainment's leading artist, with accomplishments ranging from their world tour to Jisoo's solo activities.
According to reports on April 25, BLACKPINK's ongoing world tour, 'Born Pink,' has become the highest-grossing concert by a female group. Since October last year, BLACKPINK has generated $78,485,521 (104.8 billion KRW) in revenue from their world tour, surpassing the previous record held by the Spice Girls at $78.2 million (104.4 billion KRW).
This record is particularly notable as it only takes into account the revenue generated within the first two months of BLACKPINK's world tour. With this year's concert proceeds not yet included, it is expected that the group will significantly surpass the Spice Girls' record.
YG Entertainment previously stated that BLACKPINK's world tour would be the largest scale ever for a K-POP girl group. Indeed, last year they attracted approximately 1.5 million audience members across 14 shows in 7 North American cities and 10 shows in 7 European cities.
In addition to their world tour, BLACKPINK continues to expand their activities. Recently, they were selected as the first K-POP artist headliner for the largest music festival in the United States, the 'Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival' (Coachella Festival).
BLACKPINK left their mark as a K-POP girl group at the festival with a hanok set, traditional Korean clothing embroidered with mother-of-pearl, fan dance-inspired performances, and a solo stage backdrop for Jisoo that reinterpreted Korean window frames. The performance received high praise from international media such as CNN and The Guardian.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK's Jisoo recently released a solo album, taking on the challenge of standing on her own. As the finale of BLACKPINK's solo project, Jisoo released her first solo album, [ME], and received positive responses for the title track 'Flower.'
This success is reflected in the album's sales figures. From March 31st to April 6th, Jisoo's solo album sold a total of 1,172,351 copies, surpassing 1.31 million pre-orders. This set a new record for the highest sales among K-POP female solo artists.
According to the latest charts released by Billboard on the 17th (local time), Jisoo's first solo album [ME] and its title track 'Flower' ranked 11th on the Billboard Global 200 and 6th on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. The song also made its way onto the UK Official Chart and Spotify Top Songs Global Weekly Chart.
With their world tour and solo activities, BLACKPINK is actively leading the charge as YG Entertainment's top earners. In addition, they are scheduled to headline the British 'Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival' in July, which forecasts the continued global expansion of BLACKPINK's influence.
