Prosecutors Appeal Rapper Bassagong's One-Year Prison Sentence for Illegal Filming, Citing 'Poor Offense Quality'
Prosecutors have appealed the first trial verdict for rapper Bassagong (Kim Jin-woo, 37), who was sentenced to one year in prison for secretly filming a woman he was dating and distributing the photos in a group chat.
According to the legal community on the 17th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office submitted an appeal against Bassagong's first trial verdict, in which he was sentenced to one year in prison for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming using a camera).
The prosecution stated the reason for the appeal, saying, "We carefully considered the poor quality of the offense and the victim's request for severe punishment."
The rapper is accused of secretly filming the body of victim A, who he was dating in 2018, and spreading the photos in a group chat. As a result, Vasco was handed over to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes. However, during the process, A's identity was forcibly exposed, causing serious secondary damage.
Subsequently, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal 6th Single Judge (Judge Kim Yu-mi) sentenced Bassagong to one year in prison in the first trial held on the 12th. In addition, the court ordered 40 hours of completion of a sexual violence treatment program and a three-year employment ban at child and adolescent institutions and disability welfare facilities.
However, the rapper's side filed an appeal through the law firm Jihyuk just one day after the verdict.
