Rolling Stone Apologizes To BLACKPINK For Calling Lisa 'Exotic' And Jisoo Not 'Most Talented'
Rolling Stone Magazine, the Korea edition, issued an apology to mega K-pop group BLACKPINK for certain passages written in their July 5 column, which netizens and BLINKs called out as being disrespectful to band members Lisa and Jisoo.
The apology stated that the magazine had listened, read, and taken in all the remarks and considerations related to their recent column on BLACKPINK.
Rolling Stone also admittedly noted that they had used an inappropriate choice of context and words that resulted in the misunderstanding. Furthermore, a modified and revised column will be published in the second edition of the next printed magazine.
The statement added that the revised column will also be on the official website of the magazine. It rounded off the note by apologizing to the artists for causing concern.
The article had provided a complimentary overview of BLACKPINK as such, garnering generally praise and positive reception for the quotes and thoughts of the members. However, two specific passages led to the whole uproar.
One passage claimed that the group's oldest member aka unni, Jisoo did not have the most outstanding talent in the group as either adancer or a vocalist. Another pasage described Tha-born Lisa as having an exotic appearance.
BLINKs took offense at how the magazine described Jisoo and Lisa and accused the magazine of disparaging Jisoo and being insensitive to Lisa who has been subjected to racist remarks in the past. Soon the topics "Apologize to Lisa" and "Apologize to Jisoo" soon started to trend on Twitter.
earlier, last month in June, BLACKPINK made history by becoming the first all-Asian girls singing group to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. The issue also featured a group interview as well as interviews with the four individual members, namely Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, who were asked if they had ever imagined their future without BLACKPINK.
Rosé had replied that she thinks about it but that she does not think that iit will be over. The artist further mentioned that the group is family forever with whom she grew up with, and they are a part of her. Therefore, she did not think it would ever end and that it is dumb of her to ever worry about that or think about it.
Meanwhile, the band's management agency YG Entertainment, recently announced that the group will soon come out with a new album and goon a world tour by the end of this year.
