Grammy Experts Reveal Key Points For BLACKPINK To Score A Nomination In 2021
GRAMMY experts explain how BLACKPINK, the South Korean phenomenal girl group, could get a possible nomination for the awarding ceremony in 2021.
On December 15, Tuesday, GRAMMY experts explained some key points to consider in 2021 for BLACKPINK to make it to GRAMMY nominations. Following the BTS's success and a major nomination from the biggest awarding ceremony of GRAMMYs, the four experts claimed that BLACKPINK could also make it given their widespread popularity.
IZM music critic, Jung Min Jae, believed that BLACKPINK would score a nomination by releasing a "more impactful hit song." Jun Min Jae explained that one great example is BTS's 'Dynamite,' which is a massive hit worldwide, debuting Billboard music's top spot upon release.
Furthermore, Jung commended BLACKPINK's latest and massive hit collaboration with Western Artist Selena Gomez, 'Ice Cream.'
However, compared to BTS's 'Dynamite,' the difference is big, but it is unfair to overlook BLACKPINK's tremendous comeback success with their previously released full-length album 'THE ALBUM.'
That said, Jung pointed out that 'Ice Cream' dropped 36 spots in its second week, indicating a not fully accomplished public attention. Jung said, if BLACKPINK could release a song that would reach and stay atop music charts, they will certainly secure a spot for a major category Grammy nomination.
Though not included alongside BTS in the GRAMMYs, BLACKPINK already built a strong fandom and prominence in the United States, Jung said. One more key point to build is for BLACKPINK to show off their 'artistic integrity' to make it to the Grammys.
GRAMMYs is an awarding show recognizing various musicians' artistic talent and strong opinions on various concepts, also whose music is released through their minds and hands, aside from their talents. This was backed up by Billboard K-pop columnist Jeff Benjamin, who believes BLACKPINK's artistry hinders them from stepping out to a bigger world.
Jeff Benjamin expressed his admiration to members Jennie and Jisoo, who actively participated in the songwriting phase of their track 'Lovesick Girls,' to which he describes a truly 'impressive achievement.' Many critics believe that BLACKPINK can showcase a more different side of them as artists through' artistic integrity.
However, an artist's participation is not always mentioned in interviews, which Jeff Benjamin believes has to be changed. Through discussing some vital parts in the development phase of a track or album, it would help the public and music academy to see BLACKPINK's credible talents as pop musicians.
Last is the San Diego professor and K-pop culture expert Patty Ahn who explained that GRAMMYs should also implement a change in their system. It is rare to witness Asian and Asian American females get the nomination they deserve at the GRAMMYs; of course, BLACKPINK is one of the most deserving artists.
