BTS's Jimin Takes Over Billboard with Korean Songs: 'Closer Than This' Secures Digital Song Sales #1 & 'Like Crazy' Enjoys 40-Week Long Run
BTS member Jimin's track 'Like Crazy' has been recognized as the most streamed Korean song on Spotify for 2023, shining a spotlight on his popularity. 'Like Crazy,' which surpassed 700 million streams within 249 days of its release, continued to dominate throughout the year with a total of 777 million streams. This achievement makes it the most streamed K-pop solo song and Korean song on Spotify for the year.
As of January 3rd, 'Like Crazy' has further soared to over 784 million streams, securing the 9th position in Spotify's overall streaming chart for 2023. This makes it the only K-pop solo song and the only Korean song in the top 10, highlighting its exceptional performance in Spotify's predominantly European and American user base.
The song's success on Spotify, where Korean songs are not the norm, is considered a point of pride for K-pop. Since its release, 'Like Crazy' has set records, including being the first K-pop solo track to top Spotify's Global Daily Chart. As of January 3rd, it continues to chart for 285 days, marking the longest record for a K-pop song. Additionally, it has maintained its presence on the Global Daily Artists Chart for 210 days.
'Like Crazy' has also made a significant impact in the Billboard charts, being the first K-pop solo song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. On Spotify's U.S. Daily Chart, it stayed for a record-breaking 120 days, marking the third longest for a Korean song and the longest for a solo track.
In 2021, following Spotify's launch in Korea, 'Like Crazy' became the first song to achieve 20 million streams. As of January 3rd, it has topped the Spotify Korea Daily Chart for 100 days and continued to chart for a total of 515 days.
Jimin's achievements extend beyond streaming milestones. He's been recognized in the Guinness World Records for being the fastest K-pop solo artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, achieving this in just 393 days. He also set the record for the fastest to 2 billion streams in 526 days and 2.3 billion in 578 days. In 2023, he amassed over 2.3 billion streams, demonstrating his global influence and the unwavering support of his fans.
Jimin's continued success with 'Like Crazy' not only establishes his standing as a prominent solo artist but also uplifts the pride of K-pop fans worldwide, proving the global appeal and enduring charm of Korean music.
