EXO's Baekhyun Breaks Silence on SM Tensions and New Company; Credits MC Mong for Advice
EXO's Baekhyun has finally addressed the swirling rumors concerning his relationship with the agency, SM Entertainment.
In a live broadcast on the 8th, Baekhyun shared, "It's heartbreaking to see fans get hurt by so many misunderstandings and articles that paint events as truths even when they're not." He expressed this as the reason for opening up about the recent controversies.
Addressing the tensions with SM that have been in the spotlight since June, Baekhyun stated, "Just as there are rules everywhere, there are rules within the company. I can't just break them." He added, "Both the company and I have reached mutual understandings through discussions and revisions, and we continue to support each other in a positive relationship."
Baekhyun also spoke about his newly established personal company, 'One Signature'. "The company was started with the aim to nurture talented choreographers and dancers," he shared. While the plans are still in the preliminary stages, he emphasized his intentions to move forward with good intentions. He further clarified, "The establishment of my own company was done with SM's agreement. While some may feel anxious about it, I'm committed to doing my best and I ask everyone to watch over me."
In response to rumors that he took out a loan of 13 billion KRW to purchase a house owned by Chairman C, Baekhyun clarified, "I'll be running my company, will still be with SM, and will continue to work alongside EXO members. The loan was taken in the spirit of embracing more responsibility and effort while running my company."
He added that Chairman C has had a long-standing relationship with his family, emphasizing their close bond, "Chairman C and my family have had ties for a long time, and we're still very much like family."
During the broadcast, Baekhyun also revealed, "Through these disputes, I've solidified my desire to walk the path of a producer. I've sought advice from many, and it's true that both Chairman C and MC Mong have provided valuable insights."
Concluding his address, Baekhyun expressed, "Seeing EXO-Ls feeling tired and struggling with the numerous tumultuous events was incredibly challenging for me. I've made a resolution to bring happiness to all of you, and I hope everyone will support the path of happiness I've chosen to walk."
On a related note, on the 1st, alongside members Xiumin and Chen, Baekhyun notified SM of their contract termination, citing reasons like unfair contract lengths and unclear profit distributions. At the time, singer MC Mong was rumored to be attempting to recruit EXO members Kai and Baekhyun, although he denied these claims. After deep discussions, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen reached an agreement with the agency.
