BTS Jungkook Conquers 'M Countdown' with 'Seven', Outperforms Newjeans - 'Thankful for the Great Love'
BTS member Jungkook has climbed to the top of the music charts.
Jungkook took the No. 1 trophy on the July 20th broadcast of Mnet's 'M Countdown' with his new song 'Seven'. His contender for the top spot was the group Newjeans' 'Super Shy'.
Jungkook did not appear live on the show that day. Later, he expressed his gratitude to the fans, "Thank you all. I'm happy that I could come out with such a good song and receive such great support, cheers, and love from you, allowing me to take 1st place."
He added, "Having come out as a solo this time, I can't wait to return quickly with a new song for all of you. I'll work hard on my music to return as fast as I can. Thank you, ARMY (fandom name of BTS)."
The 'M Countdown' No.1 song 'Seven' is Jungkook's solo digital single released on the 14th. The song harmoniously combines an addictive melody with a warm acoustic guitar sound and rhythm of the UK garage genre, an electronic music genre that originated in the UK in the early 1990s.
Jungkook not only won 'M Countdown' but also dominated domestic and international music charts, proving his global popularity. On July 19, Spotify, the world's largest music streaming company, announced that he had recorded 11.2 million daily streams on its latest chart (as of July 18), taking the 'Daily Top Song Global' No.1 for five consecutive days. Prior to this, Jungkook also topped the Oricon chart's daily and weekly digital single ranking in Japan, and the iTunes Top Song chart in 106 countries/regions.
Meanwhile, during the 'M Countdown' broadcast that day, the final farewell of MC Monsta X Jooheon was delivered.
Jooheon, who was selected as the 'M Countdown' MC in February, stepped down on the 24th due to his upcoming military enlistment. In the broadcast that day, he performed 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' for Monbebe (official fan club name), a song made with Monbebe in mind. He stated, "It's not just a fan song, but a song that I really made thinking about Monbebe. I wanted to say, 'Don't worry. You'll be happy. It will be a time for a little rest.'"
"I would be very moved when I sing this song, but I hope many people will remember me when they hear it," Jooheon continued. Lastly, he revealed to Monbebe, "I know you all would have been very moved when you read my letter, and I was very moved while writing it too. But I will return as lively and courageous as I have always been. I love you, Monbebe."
Jooheon said, "In truth, it's a bit disappointing that I couldn't be an MC for a long time, but I was really happy as the atmosphere of 'M Countdown' became very good and much happier in about six months. It was an honor to be with a good MC partner Miyeon. I'm so glad I could do 'M Countdown' with good staff and good singers. I will strive to become a more wonderful artist Jooheon. Thank you."
