Highlight's Son Dongwoon to Marry Non-celebrity in September, Joining the Ranks of Married Idols Following Max Changmin and Hwang Chan-sung
Highlight member Son Dongwoon is getting married, becoming the first in the group to tie the knot.
On the 27th, Son Dongwoon announced his wedding news personally through a handwritten letter posted on his Instagram.
He stated, "I am grateful to have met someone who understands me and cares for me. At some point, I felt that I wanted to be with this person in the future, so we decided to hold a ceremony in September. The person I will be with is not in the same line of work as me, so we plan to hold the ceremony quietly, only inviting family and close acquaintances."
Continuing, "I'm truly sorry that I could not tell you directly and had to withhold my words. I first met all of you when I was 19. I was the youngest both at home and in the team, and you guys also cheered me on as if I were the youngest and took good care of me, for which I am truly grateful."
Furthermore, he added, "Whether at debut or now, I am a person with many shortcomings, but thanks to the immense love you have given me, beyond what you can imagine, I have been able to grow this much, and I am well aware that today's me exists because of that. I am also grateful to the Highlight members who have always supported and trusted me with a consistent heart. I will not forget my gratitude to everyone and I will work several times harder than I have done so far. I will repay your love as Highlight's Dongwoon, doing my best in my own place with a more mature appearance."
His agency, Around Us Entertainment, also released an official statement, saying, "Our artist Highlight's Son Dongwoon will be holding a wedding with his non-celebrity partner in September. The ceremony will be held privately, inviting only family and close acquaintances. Out of consideration for the non-celebrity bride-to-be and both families, we ask for your understanding as we will not disclose any specific details, including the date and location."
Continuing, "Son Dongwoon will continue to be active as a Highlight member, a singer-songwriter, and a versatile entertainer even after the marriage. We ask for your continuous support and love for Son Dongwoon, who will greet you with a more mature appearance. Please send your warm congratulations and blessings to Son Dongwoon and his family who are standing at the starting point of a new journey."
Son Dongwoon debuted as a member of BEAST in 2009 and has been active as a member until the team became the current Highlight. He enlisted as a military policeman in May 2019 and completed his military duty in December of the following year.
Meanwhile, Son Dongwoon will join the 'Married Idol' ranks by holding a wedding with a non-celebrity woman in September. Before Son Dongwoon, Hwang Chan-sung, the youngest member of 2PM and also an actor, announced his marriage and pregnancy in December 2021, causing a shock.
In August of the same year, iKON Bobby made a buzz by announcing through Instagram that "I promised to marry my loved one and I will become a father in September", and TVXQ Max Changmin, after announcing his romance with a non-celebrity woman in December 2019, announced his marriage in June of the following year and held a wedding in October.
EXO Chen announced his marriage and premarital pregnancy through a handwritten letter in January 2020, FT Island Choi Min-hwan announced his marriage and pregnancy with LABOUM Yulhee in January 2018 and held a wedding ceremony in October of the same year. BIGBANG Taeyang announced his marriage to actress Min Hyo-rin, with whom he was openly dating, in December 2017 and rang the wedding march in February of the following year.
