BTS's Jin Shines as 'The Astronaut' Tops Charts: A Record-Breaking 22 Weeks on Hungary's 'Single Top 40'
BTS's Jin has set a new record by continuing to shine on the global stage, especially on the Hungarian charts.
His first solo single, 'The Astronaut,' made it to the 33rd spot on the 20th week of Hungary's 'Single Top 40 Chart' announced on May 26, 2023, covering the period from May 12th to May 18th. By doing so, Jin set a new record for being on the chart for a total of 22 weeks, making him the Asian solo artist with the longest chart run in history. He also claimed the title for the third-longest chart run by any Asian act, group included.
Upon its release, 'The Astronaut' debuted at number 1 on the Hungarian charts, a position it maintained for four consecutive weeks, setting another record as the Asian solo artist with the longest consecutive run at number 1. Jin's record-setting didn't stop there, as the song also claimed the top spot for a total of 5 weeks, making it the Asian solo single with the longest time spent at number 1. The only act from Asia to have spent more time at the top of the charts is BTS itself. With this, Jin has proven his worth as an artist who has reached the pinnacle of the Hungarian charts both as a solo act and as a group member.
From the 49th week of 2022 to the 14th week of 2023, Jin impressively maintained his rank on the charts for 18 consecutive weeks. This feat established yet another record for the longest consecutive chart run by an Asian solo artist, further underscoring his immense global popularity.
In the 27th week of 2020, Jin's solo song 'Moon' reached number 1 on Hungary's 'Single Top 40' chart. This marked the first time a solo song from a BTS album had reached number 1 and the second time a K-pop solo artist had achieved this feat. Besides 'The Astronaut' and 'Moon', Jin's solo songs 'Yours', 'Super Tuna', 'Abyss', and 'Tonight' have also made it to the Hungarian charts, making a total of six songs on the charts. Despite his hiatus due to military service, Jin continues to achieve impressive results on global charts and in markets worldwide, attesting to his prowess as a top solo artist.
