Intense 'Mega Rookie' Debut Race Already Underway: Hybe, YG, SM in the Spotlight
This year, we expect consecutive launches of rookie groups from major agencies, including Hybe's BoyNex Door, YG's BabyMonster, and new boy and girl groups from SM.
Fourth-generation idol groups, such as IVE, LUNARSOLAR, aespa, and NewJeans, who have demonstrated their strengths, are being followed by the debuts of 'Fifth-Generation idols' this year. Major agencies are also preparing for the debut of their rookie groups this year.
KOZ Entertainment, founded by Zico, is set to step into the music industry on the 30th. BoyNextDoor, a boy group produced by Zico, has been a hot topic for some time now. The addition of Hybe's infrastructure is expected to generate even greater synergy.
BoyNextDoor, meaning 'boys next door', embodies a promise to approach in an unpretentious and comfortable manner, and is comprised of six members - Sungho, Liu, Jaehyun, Taesan, Ehan, and Woonhak. Their debut single, 'WHO!', features three title songs: 'I'm Going Crazy', 'One and Only', 'Serenade'. Pop Time, who produced songs like 'TOMBOY', 'Any Song', 'Move', 'Maknae on Top', participated as the main producer.
YG is also preparing for the debut of BabyMonster, their first girl group in seven years following BLACKPINK. YG conducted a 'Last Evaluation' covering Baby Monsters' debut process. Through this, they confirmed seven multinational members from Korea, Thailand, and Japan - Ahyeon, Haram, Rora, Pharita, Chiquita, Luca, and Asa.
BabyMonster are preparing for their debut in the second half of this year. Ahead of this, BabyMonster released their pre-debut song 'DREAM' on the 14th, which reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot Trending Songs chart in the United States, proving their fiery potential even before their official debut.
SM is beginning their full-fledged 'SM 3.0: NEW IP 2023' strategy. On the 24th, they announced that Sungchan and Shotaro are leaving NCT and joining the boy group that is expected to debut this year. SM's new boy group will be the first in about seven years since NCT in 2016. The boy group they will be joining includes SM Rookies' Eunseok and Seunghan. Moreover, they raised anticipation by revealing the multi-national membership including Korean and American members.
In addition, SM is also planning the debut of a new girl group this year after three years. The new girl group, set to debut in the fourth quarter of this year, is expected to include a large number of members, including the debut trainees revealed through an evaluation meeting in March.
