aespa Breaks the Ice with 'Invigorating Encore' After 10-Month Hiatus
The dynamic group aespa proved their words of "releasing pent-up energy" with invigorating 'encore live,' captivating the public once again with their dynamic tracks.
On the Mnet 'M Countdown' broadcast on the 18th, aespa took first place with their title track 'Spicy' from their third mini-album 'MY WORLD.'
Following the win, Karina expressed her gratitude, "This is our first win performing 'Spicy.' We, and everyone at our company, have worked hard on this album."
Winter also thanked the fans, known as MYs, and shared her anticipation for the remaining 'Spicy' promotions. NingNing echoed this sentiment, thanking the fans for their patience and promising to work hard during the promotional period.
Following their heartfelt expressions of gratitude, an encore live performance ensued. With many idol groups focusing on performances during recent music shows, an encore stage offering a live performance has garnered much public interest. This has led to some idols, who lack strong live performance skills, facing public criticism.
Occasionally, the pressure of live performances causes some performers to falter during their encores. This often leads to a joke about the rise of 'encore live phobia' as the tense atmosphere overtakes what should be a celebratory moment.
However, aespa immediately captivated the public with their remarkable vocal range from the very start. Beginning the live performance in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, each member fully embraced their respective parts, evoking admiration from the audience with their professional demeanor, down to the smallest ad-lib.
The live footage has spread through various social networks and communities, continuing to garner a hot response. Netizens have left enthusiastic comments such as "They do live performances well," "Their vocals are good," "Better than the recorded version," "A live swallowed a CD," and "Idols that save their fans with skills."
Especially as this was aespa's comeback after a whole 10 months, the group's solid skills and live performance have garnered more attention. Furthermore, through this album, aespa has made significant changes, such as moving out of the 'kwangya' they've adhered to since debut and unfolding a worldview in the REAL WORLD, garnering more attention.
With their unique teen spirit and increased public appeal, aespa has proven the continued power of their fandom and the high interest of the public. The initial sales of their album (the number of sales in the first week after release) exceeded 1.69 million copies, setting the highest record among SM artists and K-pop girl groups. They also secured high rankings on music charts, proving their dominance in both album sales and music show rankings.
At the press conference ahead of their full-scale activities, member Winter commented, "After sticking to dark and profound stories, we've come up with an exciting song. We have a lot of pent-up energy. Our goal is to fully release this energy. We will fully release our energy on stage." With their 'fantastic live' performance and their determination to vent their energy, aespa, which has returned with a more mature look, continues to raise expectations for what they will show through this activity.
