YG's 'BabyMonster': A 7-Member Debut Marked by Tears and Triumph
YG's newest girl group, BabyMonster, has shared a moment of tears and joy as their dreams become a reality, signaling their bright future.
At midnight on May 19 (KST), YG Entertainment posted a "BabyMonster - Debut Member Announcement Reaction" on their official blog. The announcement, which included the faces of the seven members as the final debut lineup was announced, offered a vibrant glimpse into their emotional journey.
Yang Hyun-suk, the executive producer, had previously revealed, "BabyMonster was initially planned as a quintet." As a result, the odds were high for a five-member debut. Ah-Hyun, Luka, Chikita, Haram, and Parita were called up as debut members, with Asa and Lora set to join YG's new project. Although the announcement was met with mixed feelings, the members encouraged each other with heartfelt congratulations, stirring up emotions.
However, considering the voices of the 'YG Family' - the fans from all over the world, Lora and Asa were also added to the lineup, confirming the seven-member debut of BabyMonster. Caught off guard by the unexpected turn, the members were left speechless and eventually broke into tears. This led to an emotional scene where they all got up from their seats to hug each other, turning the venue into a sea of tears.
BabyMonster, who has been running towards the same dream, expressed their sincere feelings towards the members they will continue to walk with. Haram said, "I vividly remember the first day I came to the practice room. It was all thanks to everyone's hard work." Lora added, "I'm happy to debut with members who know me better than anyone else." Ah-Hyun also expressed her love, "I want to say thank you to the members once again."
They also expressed their gratitude to the fans who made their dream of a seven-member debut a reality. Parita stated, "We will work even harder to prepare great songs and music videos." Asa added forcefully, "This is just the beginning. We will work even harder." Luka promised, "We made it this far thanks to all your support. We will definitely repay you." Chikita shared her ambitious aspirations, "I have a big dream. I want to perform on the 'Coachella' stage," bringing smiles to everyone.
BabyMonster is the girl group YG is introducing nearly seven years after BlackPink. The group, with members from Korea (Ah-Hyun, Haram, Rora), Thailand (Pharita, Chiquita), and Japan (Luka, Asa), is seen as an 'all-rounder' boasting a well-rounded set of skills in vocals, dance, rap, and visuals, and is receiving global attention.
Even before their debut, as trainees, they broke the record for the shortest time to reach 2 million subscribers on their YouTube channel in just 129 days, a record for a K-pop girl group. Their teaser content also surpassed 400 million views, hinting at their rising popularity. Billboard in the United States recognized them as a 'K-pop Artist to Watch,' forecasting that they "will create a new wave in the K-pop genre."
