ADYA: Unveiling the New Generation of Bold K-pop Talent
ADYA, a five-member girl group, is set to redefine the performance powerhouse of the 5th generation of K-pop. This youthful group, under Starting House Entertainment, made its official debut in the music scene with their first single album, aptly named 'ADYA,' on May 9.
Ahead of their debut, the members of ADYA - Yeonsoo, Seowon, Sena, Chaeeun, and Seungchae - confessed in an interview with the Maeil Economy Star Today, "We can hardly believe we're debuting. We're curious about how the public will receive us and excited about the journey ahead."
The name ADYA is a blend of 'adventure' and 'YA,' the Spanish word for departure, symbolizing the start of an adventure. True to their name, ADYA's ambition is to exude confidence and boldness.
While the agency's promotional material portrays them as girls who know how to have fun, meeting them in person reveals typical teenagers who love jelly, tteokbokki, and cookies, and sing along loudly to songs in the car.
But when it comes to their passion for music, stage, and performance, they're far from ordinary.
Their self-titled debut album 'ADYA' encapsulates the members' diverse challenges and experiences in an open-ended fashion. Their debut song 'Per,' an abbreviation for 'Perfect,' is an upbeat trap genre track based on lively drums and an 808 bass. Notably, despite being a newly debuted group, all members took part in choreography creation. Sena shared, "We created everything from the planning to the concept and choreography of our pre-debut content. I think that's why they allowed us to participate in the debut song as well."
The lyrics of 'Per' boldly encapsulate their inner confidence with lines like, 'Yes, everything about me is perfect,' 'I am enough as I am, I'm going straight ahead,' 'I don't live by standards, look at me properly.'
When asked about their initial impressions of the song, Sena admitted, "We were worried if this song could fully contain our exceptional skills." Seowon added, "I usually focus on lyrics, and the lyrics of 'Per' seemed to fit our team well, expressing a readiness and audacity. It made me excited and hopeful about our adventure."
Chaeeun, when asked about the self-affirming lyrics, said, "I'm not usually high on self-esteem, but this song made me feel confident without realizing it. I liked the positive and hopeful vibe. I hope the public feels the same way."
ADYA, having fostered their dream of becoming singers while watching performances by APINK, Lee Hyori, IU, BTS, and others, anticipate showcasing their diverse charms. Each member is an 'I,' unique in charm and personality, which is reflected in their varying MBTI types.
Despite embarking on an exciting adventure with grand dreams, they can't ignore the harsh reality of the music industry where survival is key. Even if they tell themselves that 'it's okay not to be the best,' the cruel reality is that without survival, dreams fade. How does ADYA, taking their first steps, feel about this situation?
Yeonsoo shared, "We always keep two mindsets. 'Never lose our initial spirit' and 'Enjoy what we do.' Our CEO always advises us to enjoy what we do because 'the public can enjoy it when we enjoy it.' We're going to approach it with the mindset that it's useless if we don't enjoy it."
In response to the thriving 4th generation girl groups, they said, "There is so much to learn from them," but also expressed a desire to "add our strengths and show our unique charm."
"We carry the keyword 'modern kids,' and modern kids are honest and confident. We believe being honest and confident means loving oneself and expressing oneself confidently. Even if we're not 100 percent perfect, we think the public will recognize us if we love and care for ourselves one hundred percent," said Seowon.
ADYA's ambitions as they step confidently into their debut are candid, enthusiastic, humble, and grand. "We're making a powerful entrance among the already debuted seniors. We'll show you plenty of amazing sides, so please give us lots of love and support. We promise to become ADYA, who can slip into your daily lives without losing humility in our bold charm!" they pledged.
