Behind the Dating Rumors: The Untold Lives of Seungri and Yoo Hye-Won After the Burning Sun Scandal
There are two individuals who, despite being wrapped up in love rumors three times, continue to maintain their silence and walk their own paths. The story involves former BIGBANG member Seungri, who was effectively ousted from the entertainment industry due to the Burning Sun scandal, and actress-turned-influencer Yoo Hye-Won.
Seungri's troubles began in early 2019 with a series of suspicions related to the Burning Sun club incident. After being investigated in February 2019, he faced multiple additional allegations, resulting in his exit from the entertainment world. He was indicted in January 2020 for violations including procuring prostitution, embezzlement, destruction of evidence, and filming using a camera. In March 2020, he entered the military to serve his time, effectively escaping the public eye. However, he could not avoid the trial and underwent military court proceedings from September 2020. After nearly two years, Seungri was finally sentenced to one year and six months in prison, ultimately being released in February 2022.
Since his release, Seungri has been summoned twice for reasons unrelated to his intentions. The first summoning was reported in March, when Seungri allegedly proposed a club visit to his friends, much to the public's dismay. Additionally, news emerged of Seungri and Yoo Hye-Won's luxurious trip to a Bangkok hotel.
On April 26, a video surfaced, released by Indonesian influencer Grace Tahir, showing Seungri demonstrating a traditional Korean soju drinking technique. Grace Tahir, the heiress of Indonesia's fifth-largest conglomerate, Mayapada Group, revealed that she had asked Seungri for an interview, but he declined.
Understandably, the video angered the Korean public. Seungri, an idol star who served over a year in prison for nine charges related to the Burning Sun scandal, appeared unrepentant in the video, laughing and enjoying his life.
Yoo Hye-Won was involved in two love rumors with Seungri in 2018 and 2020. In response, YG Entertainment neither confirmed nor denied the relationship, effectively acknowledging it. Yoo Hye-Won was later spotted with Seungri during his military enlistment, accompanied by a white van and a woman with a dog.
Yoo Hye-Won apologized to her fans and announced her intention to file a lawsuit against malicious commenters. Since then, she has continued to engage with her fans, updating them on her life and sharing makeup tips.
As Seungri and Yoo Hye-Won pursue their seemingly similar yet distinct paths, the public continues to speculate about their relationship and future endeavors.
