Miracle of the Underdogs: Fifty Fifty Surpasses BLACKPINK on UK's Official Singles Chart
Girl group Fifty Fifty, known as the 'miracle of the underdogs', has ranked 18th on the UK's 'Official Singles Chart Top 100'.
According to the latest chart released on April 28th (local time), Fifty Fifty's 'Cupid' entered the chart at 96th, climbed to 61st, 34th, 26th, and finally ranked 18th.
This is the highest ranking for a K-pop solo song without collaboration with a pop singer. Previously, BLACKPINK's 'Sour Candy' reached the highest ranking for a K-pop girl group at 17th, but it was a collaboration with Lady Gaga.
Meanwhile, BTS' Suga's first official solo album title track 'Daechwita' entered the chart at 77th, and Jimin's 'Like Crazy' dropped 19 places from the previous week, ranking 84th for its fifth consecutive week on the chart.
'Cupid's' popularity led to plagiarism controversy. Turkish singer Evrencan Gündüz claimed that 'Cupid' was similar to his song, raising suspicions of plagiarism.
'Cupid' was composed through a collaboration of three foreign songwriters. Fifty Fifty 's agency Attract refuted the plagiarism claims, stating "It is not plagiarism," but they are going through a verification process regarding the issue.
