BTS J-Hope Begins Mandatory Quarantine Before Military Training
BTS member J-Hope (real name Jung Hoseok, 29) spent his first night in a coronavirus quarantine facility as he begins his military service, according to the South Korean Army.
On April 19, J-Hope and 208 other recruits will undergo COVID-19 testing and then spend one week in isolation before starting their military training. If their test results come back negative, they will proceed with five weeks of basic military training.
During this time, J-Hope and other recruits will be referred to as trainees. J-Hope's official military title will be Trainee Jung Hoseok. The basic military training will cover individual firearm shooting, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense, mental strength, individual combat, and a 20-kilometer march.
After completing the five-week training, the recruits will attend a graduation ceremony and receive their assignments for the remaining 18 months of their military service.
J-Hope joined the 36th Infantry Division (White Tiger Brigade) in Wonju, Gangwon Province, as an active-duty member of the 23-5th class on April 18th. If he performs well and wishes to continue, J-Hope could serve as a training assistant at the 36th Infantry Division's New Soldier Training Unit for the remainder of his military service.
BTS' eldest member, Jin (30, Kim Seokjin), is also currently serving as a training assistant at the 5th Infantry Division's New Soldier Training Unit in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province.
J-Hope's expected discharge date is October 17, 2024.
