YouTuber Claims Late Kim Sae-ron Married and Miscarried, Faces Backlash Over “Distraction” Allegations
YouTuber Lee Jin-ho, who has been sued by the bereaved family of late actress Kim Sae-ron for defamation, claimed that Kim was married and had a miscarriage during her lifetime. Netizens, however, are heavily criticizing the claim, calling it a distraction from the real issue and disrespectful to the deceased.
On March 19, Lee Jin-ho uploaded a video on his YouTube channel "Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho," alleging that when Kim Sae-ron posted wedding-themed photos with the caption "Marry" on her social media in January, she was already married to her boyfriend and living in the U.S.
Lee also released a recorded phone conversation dated January 8, purportedly between Kim Sae-ron (referred to as "B") and her manager ("A") as evidence. In the recording, B stated, "It wasn't me who posted the photo, my boyfriend did."
When A asked, "Did you actually have a wedding? Was it in Korea or overseas?" B replied, "Yes, it already happened. It was overseas." She continued, "I wasn't planning to marry him. I tried to break up, but I got pregnant. I lost the baby, but because of that, I ended up marrying him. He used that situation to pressure me. He's kind of crazy."
B further revealed that her boyfriend managed all her social media accounts. "He has control over my KakaoTalk and Instagram accounts. We fought because he didn't understand why I kept hiding the marriage. That's why the photo was posted. I told him to take it down immediately after," she explained.
When A pointed out, "You can't undo a marriage," B sighed, "I never thought I'd marry someone like this."
She described her husband as an ordinary man working for a major company in New York, whom she met through a friend. "He's usually fine, but when he drinks, it gets bad. He started acting like this after finding out about my ex-boyfriend," she added.
Along with this recording, Lee Jin-ho argued, "The bereaved family is raising significant issues about Kim Soo-hyun, who was in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron four years ago. But the reality is, Kim Sae-ron herself was married and living her newlywed life with another man."
However, netizens strongly criticized Lee Jin-ho, accusing him of defaming the late actress and attempting to divert attention from the central issue. Many pointed out that the current controversy revolves around Kim Sae-ron's alleged underage relationship, not her adult relationships or personal matters like marriage and miscarriage, and deemed Lee's claims irrelevant and offensive.
On March 17, Kim Sae-ron's family officially filed a defamation lawsuit against Lee Jin-ho. According to the family's legal representative, Lee had been uploading videos containing false information about Kim Sae-ron since 2022. He is accused of framing Kim Sae-ron's relationship with Kim Soo-hyun as a "fabrication" and repeatedly casting her in a negative light. Following her death on February 16, Lee reportedly made related videos private.
The family's attorney stated, "If possible, we would have charged Lee Jin-ho with murder, but defamation is not punishable as murder. Therefore, we filed the lawsuit for defamation," adding, "We hope the gravity of his actions will be reflected in his sentencing, and that he faces severe punishment."
