BLACKPINK Becomes World's First Musical Act To Get 75 Million Subscribers On YouTube
K-pop mega group BLACKPINK has become the world's first musical act to achieve the 75 million subscriber mark on YouTube. The streaming platform confirmed the news recently according to a new report.
The K-pop group, comprising of four members Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé, earned the title of the platform's most subscribed artist in September 2021, when the quartet crossed the 65.5 million mark, overtaking Canadian superstar Justin Bieber.
At that point, BLACKPINK had stated that their official fandom, the BLINKs, had contributed a lot to the achievement. The band also said that they would continue to bring great energy and positivity through their music videos.
Justin Bieber still holds the second rank with 69.3 YouTube million subscribers, followed by another K-pop mega group BTS in the third spot with 68.7 million followers. Marshmallow, with 55.4 YouTube million subscribers, and Eminem, with 52.4 million subscribers, round off the top five list.
The accession to 75 million subscribers has been relatively fast for BLACKPINK who debuted in 2016. They had already become the first K-pop band to reach 20 million YouTube subscribers by March 2019. By July 2020, they had become the sixth musical act to get over 40 million YouTube followers and during the summer of 2021, they took the top spot.
The four-member group has also set many other notable records on YouTube. They became the first K-pop band to have a music video "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" which reached one billion YouTube views mark on the platform in November 2019. Incidentally, at present, it is nearly inching towards 2 billion YouTube videos.
Next, the "How You Like That" music video dropped in June 2020 and earned a whopping 86.4 million views on the first day, making it the biggest music video debut on YouTube ever at the time.
Meanwhile, the much-loved group has been quiet on the music front for a while now. The band members are seen more often promoting the luxury fashion brands they are associated with and whose global ambassadors they are. However, member Jennie gave a hint in May, during an in-depth interview with Rolling Stone, that the fans could be seeing and hearing from them soon.
Jennie mentioned during the interview that during those days they were getting ready for a comeback and planning their tour and that every day she thought about how would she prepare herself for the next two busy years.
