Chinese Netizens React To Scandals With Top Celebrities: 'The Devil Really Wears Prada'
The ambassadors of Prada has gone through a tough year before 2021. Various scandals circulated online that shook the internet by storm.
Irene's Attitude Problem
Red Velvet's Irene, in October last year, was involved in an attitude controversy. An editor and stylist exposed her rude actions through a lengthy post on her social media page. The netizens were fast to speculate that the celebrity mentioned is a Red Velvet member after the writing was posted with the hashtags "Monster" and "Psycho."
Soon after the rounds in the online community, Irene apologized and admitted that she was the celebrity in question in the editor's post.
Chanyeol's Shocking Controversy
Furthermore, not too long after Irene's, Chanyeol was bombed by a shocking dating rumor. On an online community, an anonymous netizen posted and claimed to be the ex-girlfriend of Chanyeol. She shared that the EXO member was unfaithful as he had cheated on her for the three years they were dating.
On September 18, 2020, Irene and Chanyeol were named the brand ambassadors of Prada. The brand was then in a difficult situation as their two brand ambassadors of Korea were involved in very unpleasant controversies.
Since the two are both part of very popular idol groups, they have a large following in China. With this, the rumors about them immediately spread across the Chinese online communities.
Zheng Shuang In Boiling Waters
And once again, a massive scandal broke out in China involving one of their top actresses, Zheng Shuang, even before the controversy with these Korean celebrity ambassadors subsided.
In the brand's Chinese New Year campaign, the actress appeared as the brand's new ambassador. Shortly after, producer Zhang Heng, her ex-lover, revealed that he is staying in the U.S to take care of their two children born from a surrogate mother.
Producer Zhang Heng and actress Zheng Shuang had allegedly gotten married in the U.S. after talks of dating. And the two decided to have children through surrogacy after marriage.
However, just two months after, the two broke up a few months later, before the children were born. Since then, the producer took care of the children and has been staying in the U.S.
The Cancellation Of The Ambassadorship
The Chinese netizens have complained to Prada for their association with the actress after this scandal broke out in China. They also urged them to distance themselves from her.
With all these controversies, the Chinese netizens look back at the other controversies with Prada's brand ambassadors and are stating that "the devil does wear Prada."
Meanwhile, Prada decided on January 19 to cancel their ambassadorship with Zheng Shuang making her the most short-lived brand ambassador in Prada's history.
