Per Soompi, "Alice" is a sci-fi drama about an emotionless detective (played by Joo Won) who learns about the existence of time travel as he tracks down his mother's killer. He then discovers a woman who looks exactly like his dead mother (played by Kim Hee Sun).
Kim Hee Sun takes two challenging roles in the drama as she plays Park Jin Kyeom's mother, Park Sun Young, and the genius physicist, Yoon Tae Yi. The actress reveals that she had some concerns regarding Joo Won's mother's role, but she noted that she knew how to portray maternal affection.
The actress also shared that the most challenging part of the drama is her playing a genius physicist role. She said that she had to use physical terms naturally. "At first, the lines were hard, but I had fun filming."
Joo Won, who will be taking his first role since his military discharge, shares that he picked up the project because it sounded the most fun. Having a good rapport with the director, he expressed how he loved his new character.
The actor answered regarding his character's congenital lack of emotion and said that he has to portray a lot of subtle emotions on the role. As Jin Kyeom grows up, Joo Won shared, that he becomes more flexible, more comfortable to work with, and understands emotions better.
Moreover, Kim Hee Sun and Joo Won both stressed the action nature of the drama. Kim Hee Sun revealed that she's not familiar with action at all, but she felt so impressed by seeing herself on the monitor doing action scenes. Joo Won added that Kim Hee Sun is the type of person who does well while saying she can't do it.
Meanwhile, director Baek Soo Chan shared that people might think that "Alice" is a hard filming sci-fi drama, but it is actually about family and love. He continued that the cast and crew all knew that humans are the focus of the show, and it is not a drama that is complicated and difficult to follow.
